(No flash; digitally augmented exposure by .75 to avoid blooming the ligher areas of the bird's feathers.)

(with flash, sync'ed only at 1/125 - fast little bugger, I must admit... my external flash mechanism bought in 2004 DOES work with my camera at 6' away! HOT DAMN! Still, the flash that syncs up to 1/500 costs too much...)

Manual optical focus as well; digital forms of 'focus' are garbage.

At 10MP, I could get a sizeable blowup - but this ain't the kind of bird I want as a poster... :rofl:

900mm? How do you figure that? Is that counting the digital sensor crop of 1.6X for most digitals? Or are you counting the crop done in the photo editor?

2. Cropping via photo editing would never leave THAT much detail...

:D

It's a D-SLR, with a 300MM lens (which acts like a 450MM lens due to the sensor crop you'd mentioned) plus a 2x tele-converter. (Though I thought the crop factor was 1.5, not 1.6)

The quality is rather good for consumer equipment... but, yeah, technically it really is only 600mm.

I should crop a 500x300 square of the original photo, just to show the detail... But who wants to look at a swatch of feathers? :rofl:

I ought to get another P&S camera for the wide angle shots, but I don't think it's really necessary.
