HELP: I am so conflicted about working out!
two sides of myself on this.
First side; I am 43 years old and was a track athlete in high school, Jogged for years and still fancy myself a athlete despite the fact that I stopped jogging in 1990. I received a gym membership for christmas last year from my daughters( message there?)and have been going regularly (every 5 or 6 days) since then. I do the Cybex machine for and hour or so and kinda love it. I love the way the machines computer blinks at me and records my workout, shows me how I'm doing, and love when it shouts PUSH! PUSH! at me at the appropriate moment. I always appreciate it when it congratulates me on a great workout at the end. I like the gym experience too,I like the relentlessly up beat soft rock. I like the lockeroom and the sauna, I like the steam shower.Bottom line I feel bad about not doing it if I skip too many days in a row.

Second side; I pay HOW much? to do what? to run on a friggin wheel to relax? It sounds like crazy talk.Who runs on a wheel? Hamsters thats who! I am not a hamster. I am man. I am 43 years old. My body has found its own level and why fight against that? I am in reasonally good shape, not overweight or often sick.I don't pay too much attention to what I eat. I do practice moderation when eating but thats my only real boundary.
How healthy is healthy enough?
I sometimes feel really foolish on the darn machine standing there spinning the darn wheel like it was dreadfully important, and raying royally for the pleasure.

Any comments would be considered helpful.

1. Find a community center...
I pay 90$ per year for a gym and pool. Maybe I am lucky. Get a bike.. Sounds like you are tired of working out. So stop.

2. well if you like it and use it, it is worth the money
I belong to Planet Fitness and pay $10 a month with no contract. It was a sweet deal and it isn't a bad place either. No Cybex machines but plenty of others. I haven't been lifting weights because I have a sore shoulder. But I have been running on the treadmill and using the elliptical.

Maybe try an exercise class?
