Man, donating blood just knocks me on my ass
I donated blood 8 weeks ago at the last drive, and this time was much better: less dizziness and light-headed feeling. But it sucked walking home in the rain x(

But even though it sucks for a few hours, it feels good to know that my blood will help someone who needs it. And yes, even though the RC has an asinine stance on blood donations from gay men, I think it's important to donate if you're willing and able.

But now I'm going to lie down and have some cookies and fruit juice...still dizzy.

1. Good for you
Sorry it takes so much out of you.
I'm on a one year ban for travel to a malarial area otherwise I'd be donating too.

2. The only other time I've fainted (besides after getting my ears pierced) was after giving blood
I didn't eat anything beforehand. It took all the cookies and juice they had to shock me back into consciousness! Needless to say, I learned my lesson! I can't give blood anymore because it's too hard for them to even get blood during routine blood draws - they can never find find a vein. I have to be sure to drink a huge bottle of water beforehand just to pump up my veins even a little.

I hope you feel better soon! And good for you for your actions!

5. August 12, 1975 - age 12 (almost 13) - 105 degrees
Waiting for sister and mom to stop yapping and take me to the jewelry store to have the deed done, so was a nervous wreck. Procedure went okay, but when we got outside I got dizzy, whirled around and crashed into the jewelry store window and hit the deck. One of the most embarrassing moments of my life!

4. there's a drive here on campus on Thursday
I just checked the Red Cross site for rules re: giving blood and how long you have to wait after major surgery (I heard it was 2 years) but I can't find any confirmation. I suppose I could go to the drive and find out first-hand....

9. My dear WindRavenX!
Good for you, for donating...

Did you have a good meal before your donation time?

And lots of fluids help beforehand as well...

Take care of yourself, sweetie!

10. Thank you!!!!! My daughter was recently in the hospital, and had to
have LOTS of blood product. I know I'll never repay all that she has received, but I'm gonna try. Thanks for being one of the thousands of people that saved her.

11. Orange juice and an endless supply of Nutter Butters?
I'd sell a pint of blood for a meal that good.
