Someone up there does not want me to watch "Idol"
Two weeks ago we had horrible rain and lost our satellite signal, and Idol didn't record. Tonight it's happening again. A sign of the Apocalypse or something?

1. Awww.
So sorry.

I am watching it for the first time this season.

Sanjaya (spell?) just sang.

2. How'd he do?
I like the kid. He's not my pick to win it, but I think the negative attention he's getting is undeserved.

4. He's awful.
At least vocally.

His performance was fun but he really can't sing, imo.

But I kind of hope he wins! Just cause I think that show has jumped the shark so it would be amusing to see him win it!

15. Unless that "Vote For The Worst Singer" thingy saves him...
...he should likely be going home tomorrow.
Other Idols did not do so well either but Sanjaya was outstandingly bad in comparison. He could have and should have put more "ooomph" into it, I felt like he was (vocally), just rehearsing in a small room. He DID have a great time on stage tonight and I enjoyed his little flirt with the background singer.
Even Paula struggled to say nice things about his performance though.

I thought Jordan Sparks did the best. I still predict her to be in the top 3

I actually thought Chris was worse than Sanjaya.

10. Lakisha and Chris are still coming up, so I can at least see that.
It's almost 7:30 here in Idaho; I'd forgotten to turn the show on at 7.

5. Here are my thoughts on tonight (minor spoiler)
Edited on Tue Apr-17-07 08:30 PM by mvd
Phil: actually better than usual for him. He lost the annoying rasp and actually had a bit of a country edge. B

Jordin: it WAS a hard song to sing, and she made it her own. Gave it a soulful vibe. But at times a bit too slow
and deliberate. B+

Sanjaya: I agree with Simon - it was as bad as some of the non-going to Hollywood auditions. Pretentious this time,
and he usually at least avoids that. F - my first F of the season.

LaKisha: I thought the song was fine for her. It's a song she should easily be capable of singing well. I thought
she gave it some gospel flavor while being restrained. A

Chris: nasally to the point of being wimpy. His most nasally of the season. It would be a D-, but shamefully
invoking Virginia Tech to excuse his performance brings it to the second F of the season.

Melinda: sang it too fast even for that melody. Made it not work for me. Only her talent kept it afloat. C+

Blake: a little bit too croony on the verses, but I'm glad he didn't try to make it sound countrier than it is. He
certainly knows who he is, as the judges said. B+

14. Simon pretty much took off the gloves today
I think he's been taking it easy on Sanjaya because I don't think he saw much more prospects in the people who've been eliminated instead of Sanjaya thus far.

Today, I think Simon basically said enough is enough and is now trying to make sure that people who have the ability to actually sell records continue to move on to next week. If it wasn't for relatively weak performances (for them) by Laikesha (sp?) and Chris I'd be comfortable in saying Sanjaya is definitely going home tomorrow.

If Sanjaya actually stays and anyone but Phil goes home I think we may get to see Simon slowly approach some sort of break down.

16. DialIdol has him in the bottom three
So we'll see. LaKisha is also listed by DI in the bottom three, but they've underestimated her support, and hopefully many thought she did better than the judges did. I sure thought she was good.

I voted for Blake, LaKisha, and Jordin.

19. It's a service people use to try to predict the voting results
It's not often accurate for who will be voted off, but it can be a good guide to who will be safe.

13. You didn't miss much, unless you like country music.
Even then, you probably wouldn't recognize their versions of some of those songs.

Even Blake, who is usually so creative, was blah. I voted for Jordin this week (instead of Blake.)

Sanjaya was like a bad parody of himself. Reeeeallly bad.
