Wisconsin State Senate Ok's FREE BEER In Supermarkets
suck it Chicago! :P

<snip>

MADISON — Beer lovers of Wisconsin, rejoice! Thanks to the state Senate, you’re a step closer to getting a free (yes, free!) half-can of beer.

The Senate today approved a bill on an unanimous voice vote that allows grocery and liquor stores to hand out samples of up to 6 ounces of free beer per day to people of legal drinking age. The Assembly was expected to take up the measure later today.

Current state law allows wineries, but not grocery and liquor stores, to offer up to 6 ounces of free samples.

Sen. Pat Kreitlow, D-Chippewa Falls, home of the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Co., is the bill’s main sponsor. He said the measure is designed to help beer manufacturers compete with wine makers.

1. That's it, I'm moving to Wisconsin
I hate living in PA, we have to go to a beer distributor to get beer, but have to go to a state stor to get any other booze. Dammit, I wanna be able to buy my toilet paper, pop-tarts, and beers all in the same trip!

3. we have a food specialty store nearby that keeps a keg
for its shoppers - free of course . . .

This has been there for years . . . and I shop there frequently (not surprisingly). I have never seen anyone take advantage . . or drink too much.

The place is always packed . . . and the prices are not cheap - but the quality is high. So I am sure the keg is worthwhile financilly.

4. That's awesome! Kreitlow was just elected last fall, after years as a news anchor on TV
Good guy. I don't know him, but I know of him.

And I have no idea how far ranging Leinenkugel's beer is around the country, but if you fin any, get some - good, good beer.

5. Yeahbut....
in my stupid city grocery stores aren't allowed to sell liquor. They can have a liquor store under the same roof but has to have it's own separate entrance. How much does that suck?

12. Huh, my cousin who was recently ripped out of Illinois....
Edited on Wed Apr-18-07 09:16 PM by greatauntoftriplets
because her husband accepted a job in Wisconsin was shocked (I tell you) utterly SHOCKED one recent evening when she tried to buy booze in Walworth County (Lake Geneva area, SE WI) just past 9 p.m.

And was told that it was too late to buy booze. 9 p.m. was the cutoff time. Damn cheesehead wimps.

That may happen in some parts of Illinois, but certainly NOT in Chicago.

:bounce:

On edit: The town in which I live has the highest number of liquor licenses per capita population in the metropolitan Chicago area. Suck that up, Massachusetts!!!!

23. Aw, she doesn't have it so bad.
Where I live you can only buy liquor in state owned liquor stores, only open 'til 10 and their not open on Sundays. You can buy beer in the supermarket as late as you want, but the beer is only 3.5% alcohol per volume. I get a better buzz drinking tap water. Oh, and bars? There are none. Only private clubs, which you need a membership to enter.

Yup, it sucks.
