If you poke a hole in the center of your hamburger patty
It won't shrink when you cook it.

Just FYI. :D

4. I'm eating one right now
grilled by my husband last night.

It's a nice big patty, with a dime sized hole in the middle.

2. That's what bellybuttons are for, too!
Ever cook someone without one? They're like Shrinky-Dinks!

On the other hand, everyone I know with a bellybutton has gone on only to get bigger.

Doesn't have to be huge.

9. True, but the burger will also be drier and less appealing than one made with
ground beef with a higher fat content.

I use 85/15 for hamburgers.

13. I cook them a shorter time.
I prefer the leaner meat for burgers. Plenty juicy and plenty appealing!

the meat stays extra juicy.

8. I'm a vegetarian
but you got me wondering why that happens. Apparently the hole stops the meat from getting "puffy" and causes it to constrict around the hole, essentially closing the hole but keeping the burger flat and relatively the same size.

Tired of those pesky burgers you're grilling getting all shrunk up, turning into "burger balls"? Serve nice, flat, fit-on-your-bun burgers by putting a hole in the center of your patty before you cook it. The hole should be about the size of a nickel. The meat will shrink to the center, filling in the hole while remaining flat!

11. And to add to the food trivia....
If you put a large spike nail lengthwise in your potatoes before you bake them, they will bake much faster. I have a friend who will not bake potatoes any other way.

They couldn't shrink any smaller.
