DU midweek poll: 5 random questions about you
Edited on Wed Apr-18-07 06:06 PM by mvd
1) What do you think of Wednesdays in general?

2) How long have you been on DU today?

3) What is your favorite music?

4) What brand of computer do you own?

5) What's one day of the year that you are excitedly counting down to?

My answers:

1) Probably the most blah day of the week for me

2) A couple hours in total; though I've been off and on

3) Classic rock (The Beatles, Beach Boys, Herman's Hermits, CCR, Rolling Stones, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Shangri-Las, Elvis, Fleetwood Mac included,) power pop/pop rock (Cheap Trick, The Cars, The Bangles, Blondie, Go-Gos, The Corrs, Michelle Branch, Avril Lavigne, The Veronicas, Damone, New Pornographers, Fountains Of Wayne, The Pierces, Barenaked Ladies, Kate Voegele, Alison Ray, Marianne Keith, Madonna, Camera Obscura, The Charade, Sloan included,) Motown/soul (The Supremes, Luther Vandross, Aretha, Smokey Robinson included,) singer songwriter/folk/folk pop, and rock (Bruce Springsteen, Aimee Mann, Brandi Carlile, Cindy Alexander, R.E.M., U2, John Mellencamp, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Indigo Girls, Bonnie McKee, Jo Davidson, Nina Gordon, Sinead O'Connor, Josh Ritter included,) and The Dixie Chicks. I won't get into all the artists - you can get the idea.

4) I own a Gateway - despite its reputation, the computer has been a sturdy computer.

5) July 21 - the day Book 7 of Harry Potter is released

I love Lucinda.. Patti Smith is good, too. Not sure I can call her a fave, but I have 3 CDs from her. I actually think Patti's new stuff is best!

Here are styles I could do without:

death metal, some adult contemporary, 90s-type boy bands, cheesy dance music, pure techno, rap, and reggae.

Hope your son has a great birthday! :hi:

What video games are on his list? I have a PlayStation 2, but it's too often idle. I'm not into Madden 2007 off-season (plus I don't like Michaels, who announces on it,) and my Star Wars game got boring after I beat Count Dooku.

I like some reggae-influenced stuff, like some songs from The Police. World music is a style I need more of, but I like Latin music, African, and Irish/Celtic a lot. New age like Loreena McKennitt and early Enya often has a nice blend.

He loves those medieval battle games and he and my husband have been playing Civilization together. It's very entertaining to watch!

actually there are few forms of music I don't like, I have pretty eclectic taste, from Tuvan throat singing to Yo La Tengo to ZIggy Marley to Sweet Honey in the Rock to Don Byron and Geri Allen to the Anonymous Four to Meredith Monk, etc. etc.

Their I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass gets a big thumbs up. Do you have it yet? If those games are compatible with PlayStation 2, I'll look into them.

I just heard Ginsburg have a scathing dissent in that bad Supreme Court decision today. I'm going to check LBN and then do down for a late supper. I will see you later! :hi:

I haven't really looked at it yet. :(

I saw YLT way back in the day after the Mets had just lost to the PIrate (Barry Bonds era). They were not pleased. I like their sound a lot and any bands with women drummers are always cool, in my book.

see ya later...

Have been on DU about an hour this AM, and now 5 minutes (so far  ) this PM.

Fav music is anything done well....except for opera. I just don't "get" opera.

HP laptop and MacBook

Looking forward to May 3 (am having a business vendor booth at the downtown Farmers Market!)
and about June 5 when I travel to OKC, and then possibly a few days in Tucson
and about June 30 to go see old friends in Redding, spend a couple of days in Monterey, and then about 4 days in Pismo Beach at a condo! Will be spending July 4 there! :woohoo:

You have some great choices there. I don't make an official list, because I'm afraid I'd forget an artist like Simon & Garfunkel, The Sundays, Sarah McLachlan, Kelly Clarkson, Patty Loveless, Pink, etc.

47. Ok
My only problem with Wensesday's is that I usually mispell it. Sucks.

Just got on.

Depends on my mood. Listening to Metal (Pantera) right now.

HP (Can't spell that either, I'm just a shitty speller)

I'm not sure of the exact day, sometime in June when my grandson come up for the summer.
