A co-worker asked me and my wife to dinner this week. His lady friend is a successful artist. We've been to her home before, and she's been to ours. She saw my paintings at my house, and said good things about them.
This week's invite went something like "C____ and I have been talking about you and your paintings ...chat chat chat... she wants you to come to dinner.
We visited a long time before the subject came up, then she again said good things about my work, and said she'd like to paint with me. She said she's part of a movement that I might want to join (I'm leery of movements, but I do believe in working in consort with other artists). She said she felt my work was good enough to be accepted in galleries, and that she had gotten other artists into shows. The conversation was very casual, but I felt something important was happening.
So here I sit, at my civil service job, where I've been sitting for 20 years. I've hoped that I could one day sell my paintings (Not a single painting hangs anywhere), and here's an established artist seemingly taking me under her wing.
Am I delusional, or is this significant?
