Help with a passport question please!
I may get the chance to get away for a long weekend. How long does it take to get a passport? I don't have one and I was hoping to get it by July.

I will check back later. Thanks for your help. You guys seem to know just about everything. :hi:

3. Maybe Mexico or the Bahamas.
Last time I went years ago, I didn't need one. Mr borlis may be taking me for my July birthday.

10. 6-8 but you pay for expediting
If you do it the old fashion way it is 10 weeks.
Don't wait there are horror stories out there. Someone in my office got all their other 3 passports but her 8 year old daughters had a letter addressed to a woman in NYC telling her that her pics were not usable. She couldn't prove that she was the child's mother because her mothers maiden name was not on the birth certificate. This was not an issue with her 12 year old daughter but they didn't want to say anything about hers fearing they would investigate that one as well. They did all this well in advance and spent the last month trying to fix it and they were due to fly to London.
It got there the day they were making the decision who was staying home and who was going to use the 3500 $ worth of tickets. Don't risk it-

4. You can get it in about one hour if you have to
I did a few years ago.

You have to go to the DC Passport Office for that.

However, you can get it in about 7-10 days if need to.

The first option is through your Senator.

5. The passport office is WAY backed up.
I've been reading lots of horror stories on a travel board I read. The normal process is taking about 3 months right now and even expedited is taking a long time to get done. Some people have had to contact their Representative to put the rush on.

7. You can expidite it if you need to...

8. If you go to Mexico & return by land, you don't need one until 01-2008
If you fly BACK into the U.S. you need one. Because of these new, ridiculous "homeland security" restrictions, the lines are humongous and the turnaround period is 8-10 weeks for non-emergency. There ARE expedited procedures for an additional $60, "Your passport will normally be processed within three business days once the passport agency receives the application. The fastest way to ship your application there and back to you is with Express Mail service for $14.40 each way. Express Mail service is guaranteed overnight to many locations, and you can track it online at usps.com. Ask your retail associate for more details.

I don't know about Bermuda.

National Passport Information Center: 1-877-487-2778.

11. Since it is almost 10 weeks until July
You can just go to your local post office or AAA office and get your picture taken and fill out the application form. Just make sure you bring more than a driver's license for identification. You can probably get a list of what is needed on the State Dept website.

If you want to be safe, you can pay for expedited service. You might want to do that for peace of mind because I'd hate to be there that last weekend in June without a passport.

You can also go through agencies that specialize in getting passports/Visas to other countries - but, some of them are not reputable and I couldn't tell you where to begin there.

13. Apply now
I had my renewed last year and it took 4 weeks, without a hurry-up push. They were just discussing passports in the office today. Because travel to Canada now requires a passport, they're way backed up. They need to keep an eye people returning, possibly infected with socialized health system ideas.

Put your application as soon as you can.

14. Passport
We can take the pictures here for you......you can expedite it for 2weeks time but pay double
or wait the now 8-10weeks since they have a overload now, or make an appointment at one of 3offices in the US like Seattle in the morning and have it by the afternoon.....but that is spendy too.

15. Just got a passport last Saturday.
I was worried about the wait, so I "expedited" it.
It cost an extra $65.00 for expediting and shipping,
but I got the passport in one week, delivered to my
door via U.S. Post.

Total cost $197.50

This was for a RENEWAL.

It is good for 15 years.

Just my experience. Your mileage may vary.

:)
