I swear. This sounds nuts, but you really only need the first one. After that, if you can breathe slowly and distract yourself for a little while, you stop hicoughing. Think about all the "cures" - standing on one foot and singing, drinking water upside down, reciting the alphabet backwards, remembering what you had for breakfast yesterday. They all distract you from hicoughing... do you still have hiccoughs?

I promise, you can teach yourself to stop. For some people it's distraction, for some more like meditation on slow breaths.
