I was at Pikes Peak years ago.

I also lived/work in DC, which i believe is below Sea level (which is why the humidity is so awful in the later summer ... the hot weather would gather and then stop (as the altitude climbed to sea level further east) and wouldn't move on until a storm with strong enough winds could push the hot / humid air through. Or so the local lore went in the eighties.)

I may be wrong about that.

I may have been higher on Nevado de Toluca (with the ex-step-fatherinlaw, with whom I shared basically no language; the ex had her reasons for not teaching me).

This is part, however, of a collection of memories that generally I'm, um... deemphasizing.

Highest: the old Denver airport, approx. 5,280 ft.

Lowest: somewhere in New Orleans, -5 to -10 ft. (exact elevations are difficult to measure there).

edit: note that all of New Orleans is NOT below sea level. The lowest would probably have been the UU church in the Lakeview neighborhood.

In a very small Subaru

Lowest: Sea level

However, I've done the driving tour of Custer State Park in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and I might have gone above that without remembering it. The Black Hills go as high as 7,200 feet or so, so the possibility cannot be excluded.

32. Fellow Rainier climber!
What route did you climb?

I climbed it three times. Once via Camp Muir and once via Camp Hazard below the Kautz ice cliff. And once where we turned back due to weather.

37. Emmons Glacier route
I have a friend that used to be pretty active with The Mountaineers. He had attempted Rainier several times and got turned back from weather, other peoples altitude problems, and once got sick himself. It was pretty nice that we did it together, we've been hiking and climbing together for 35 years.

I don't know what the lowest point I've been in has been-my guess is somewhere in coastal Florida.

But I did climb Mt. Princeton when I was 16 and at Young Life camp. It took me all day and I got sun poisoning doing it, but I did it.

There are several islands in the delta that have sunk well below sea level, but which are still dry because of the massive levies surrounding them.
