How easy is it to transform digital camcorder films into MPEGs?
My folks, bless their hearts, bought me a digital camcorder for my birthday. This I didn't expect, and I am very appreciative. But this camcorder still uses videotape in an age where it seems all the new gadgets use SD Cards and Memory Sticks.

I'm sort of a neanderthal when it comes to this stuff. If I patch the footage through a DVD recorder, do most DVD recorders have an option to save the footage as an MPEG movie so I can upload it to DU, YouTube, etc.?

Many thanks in advance.

2. This isn't a computer issue...
The camcorder uses videotape, not DVDs or memory cards. I just want to know how many DVD recorders have the capability to record MPEGs of incoming A/V signals from my new camcorder.

5. If it's a MiniDV camcorder
use iMovie HD if you have a Mac, or get a Windows video editing program (sorry, can't recommend any since I'm using iMovie and Final Cut Express on a Mac). Both will allow you to suck the DV off of the tape, edit it, and save it in a format that you can upload to video sharing services like YouTube.
