Is this cat story beautiful or creepy?
We laid our old cat Smokey gently on a saft towel under a dresser when we saw that he was dying so he could have a quiet, comfortable place to pass on. He wasn't moving and his feet were already turning cold. I went to take a shower, and when I got back, he was gone. This was last fall. I searched all over the house and I kept expecting to find his dead body in an odd hidey hole.

I have a forsythia that has never bloomed in 20 years. This year it is in spectacular bloom. I went out to look at it yesterday, and noticed a small animal skull on the ground. Mu daughter, the one who took comparative anatomy took one look and yelled "Mom - that's Smokey!" Sure enoguh, we found the rest of his mortal remains under the shrub. He used to like to lie there in the summer and pounce on gold finches. Somehow he got himself outof the dog door, down two steps , out of the dog pen and around the house to die in one of his favorite spots.

So now, it looks like Smokey's last gift was to give the shrub whatever it needed to bloom!

There really is no such thing as death -- there is only change.

6. I vote for beautiful too.
May he rest in peace there under the forsythia, and may his spirit blossom in golden flowers every spring.

7. It reminded me of a passage from the weeping gardener
I want to be
the weeping gardner
of the grounds you occupy,
and compost so early,
my soul mate.

In the rain to feed the garden snails,
organ of my voiceless pain,
surrendering your heart as food,
to the disheartened roses,
such pain clumps in my chest,
breathing is agony.

16. Oh my -
I don't think I have ever read a poem that expressed loss and it's pain so well.
Thank for sharing.

9. I'm unable to vote for beautiful but it isn't creepy.
It sounds... true, and therefore it's a good story.

15. Going with beautiful
Cats naturally go to die under bushes.
They are driven to do this - it must be the best for them too.
