why would you not gear up appropriately?

something like police/tactical full body armor.

even wrapping thick layers of cloth/leather/wool around your forearms and legs would increase your chances of not having the skin broken (zombie infection transmission entry point) in the event you got too close or if one snapped at you.

or something.
