I've noticed alot of posters get banned for creting a topic that already exists. At least I'm assuming they get banned because it says duplicate post and their name is removed. The only time I haven't seen a poster banned for creating a duplicate post was if he/she had 500posts or more. I really like this site and want To create topics but I'm afraid I may get booted. Will I get boOted if I create a topic on the news/general section and the topic was posted 3 or 4 pages back and I just didn' catch it?

is when they are continuing a flame war from another locked post. Sometimes posts get merged if there's more than one of them - perhaps that's what you're seeing. More often, people know they shouldn't be carrying on from another thread and they're just being jerks by doing so. Deliberately being a jerk here is frowned upon but not uncommon. :P
