Giant Steps

I found this animation that puts the tune Giant Steps to animation. It can take a long time to load, but it's worth it. I had to watch it three or four times to appreciate how the music and construction go together. It also helps to have tried to play the tune. Probably the hardest jazz piece ever written. A chord change every beat.

7. That's fantastic!

I haven't read music in fifteen years. I was lead trumpet in a bunch of jazz bands. And even a Tower of Power cover band.

But never have I seen it represented in this way. GREAT! I could almost learn music theory like this. I was one of those people with a true gift for the horn, but who couldn't read chord changes worth a shit. I just played. Which made things like Giant Steps impossible for me.
