Huge star explodes in brightest supernova yet seen
Edited on Mon May-07-07 07:45 PM by LoZoccolo
In today's news:

A gargantuan explosion ripped apart a star perhaps 150 times more massive than our sun in a relatively nearby galaxy in the most powerful and brightest supernova ever observed, astronomers said on Monday.

I can think of a song to commemorate this cosmic event:

Someday you will find me, caught beneath the landslide
In a champagne supernova in the sky

I cannot recall the Beatles ever writing a song about an event of this magnitude, can you?

Score one for Oasis.

2. I didn't think it was possible to ruin a supernova until now.

5. That's not exactly true
about its being the brightest ever seen.

The supernova that created the Crab Nebula was visible in daylight and was recorded by Chinese and Arab astronomers in 1054.
