Could you answer an iPod question?

I'm sure it's a no-brainer, except in this brain.
When you recharge your iPod via your computer, do you have to undo the lock first? I've been doing that, but is it necessary? I ask because I have all my tunes on shuffle, and would love not to have to start over at the beginning as it seems tunes repeat themselves anytime I do that.
I have a nano, and about 900 tunes loaded.

3. I guess I was in the 'recharge, start over' mode. So I don't have to

reshuffle to recharge, nor do I have to unlock it. Thanks!

but recharging with the lock off shouldn't reset your shuffle mode either.
