Post a band that was the best and worst rock band of all time
I nominate the Replacements.

If you caught them on the wrong night you'd get 20 minutes of them falling down drunk attempting to play covers that they didn't know

If you caught them on the right night you'd get over two hours of life changing spine tingling ass kicking rock and fucking roll

1. Spinal Tap.
:P :hi: Gotta agree with you about the Replacements. They were either very good or totally awful. Nothing in between.

2. They were thrown off by a substandard deli tray when they played Chapel Hill
How could you expect them to put on a good show when the meats wouldn't fit in the breads, at that "cracker university"

(Yes, that's how UNC-Chapel Hill is described in the original film)

5. Yes
They were either brilliant, accomplished musicians pushing the boundaries of what can be considered 'rock and roll'

...or they were a bunch of wankers enamored of their own ability to dexterously manipulate their respective instruments.

Actually, they were (and are) both at the same time... how you perceived them had largely to do with how broadly or narrowly you defined 'rock and roll.'

6. Please dont kill me.......The Grateful Dead
I'm a huge deadhead, but if you caught a show in the early 90's (as opposed to the late 90's) you might have had the chance to see the Dead fall apart on stage due to drug abuse and poor health. This also happened a few times in the 80's when Jery was sick.

It was sometimes a crap shoot. I also think that the best version of Black Muddy River was at Jerry's last show in Chicago on July 9, 1995 at Soldier Field.

At their peak (the better part of 30 years) no band put on a better show than the boys, which made it all the more sad to see them while they were not at their best.

9. Rolling Stone magazine's Hot Band of the Year 1987
They had a bad habit of throwing up (literally and figuratively) whenever they were on the verge of being superstars.

Here's one of their infamous promotional videos. It's a great song but it's not exactly something you'd want to watch all the way through, much less more than once, which was their intention.
