I caught a hummingbird! (pic)
This little guy was way up high in one of my Queen Palm trees, so I got as close as I could without scaring him off, and still had to use the most zoom on my little digital camera.

I think he was taking a break from the 90+ degree heat by cooling in the shade.

4. Almost an hour later, and the little one is still in that same spot
Flapping his wings occasionally...have to think he's (she?) is just cooling off for a while...seems OK otherwise.

Thanks, wildhorses! :hi: :loveya:

13. Cool!
What kind of hummer was it? Anna's, Rufous, Ruby throated?? Hard to tell because like you said, it is in the shade. Check out this month's Bird's and Bloom's magazine. Issue is devoted to the hummers! :hi:

12. I love how he is so light he can just sit on that tendril of bark from the palm tree
I saw one sitting still the other day, too. At first I wondered if it was a really large insect.

Love the picture.

35. Those little guys are nuts
Our previous house had lots of hummers visit, and it was great fun watching them on early summer evenings. We get three kinds here - Ruby-throated, Rufous, and Calliope. Those Rufous ones were by far the most aggressive, we even saw them chasing robins away.

37. They can be quite entertaining
When I lived in Tucson, they used to fight in, around and through my covered patio. Had to duck more than a few times.
