Strawberries, blackberries, raspberries
or blueberries? Which do you prefer?

Sugared or non? Cream or plain?

And, most important of all -- will you share?

Discuss.

Isn't it?

Yeah -- car got fixed this afternoon. Guy came out to the parking lot where I had to leave it last night and fixed it. Charged me 75.00 less than the estimate I got from the garage. And I didn't have to move it.

31. Yup.
And it only took 'em about a half-hour to do it, too. If I'd taken it to the garage, it probably would've sat there for three days.

:eyes:

And if you don't let me know, I'll have to hunt you down. You'd better. I'm not sure I like that smilie, though.

7. They were on sale here -- 2 for 5.00 -- so
I bought some a few days ago, to make a pie...strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. Someone (and if I find out who, they're dead meat) got into the strawberries, so the pie was out of the question. I had no choice but to either eat them or see them go to waste (in my house? Yeah...riiiiiiight), so I brought a container filled with blackberries and what was left of the strawberries to work tonight and I can't decide which is better.

35. In this order: Raspberries, Blackberries, Blueberries and Strawberries. Although I
absolutely adore them all. What a treat to find out they are incredibly good for you!

I eat some combination of those four every single day, depending on what we have in the fridge. I eat them over plain, non-fat greek yogurt (Trader Joe's brand, FABULOUS) with honey, walnuts and flaxseed meal. It's a superfood breakfast, and my doctor tells me my cholesterol is amazing (really low bad cholesterol and really high good cholesterol).

But as an occasional treat, I do enjoy them with come cream and sugar in a bowl. Or drizzled with melted dark chocolate. I never, ever get tired of berries.

37. Oh, it's WONDERFUL. It's like having a super deluxe sundae without the
ice cream. Chocolate and raspberry is a classic flavor combination, and of course chocolate dipped strawberries are hugely popular. And since both dark chocolate and berries are considered superfoods, it's a dessert that is also full of antioxidants and fiber. What's not to like?

But seriously, my husband and I have been changing our eating habits over the last year in order to get on a healthier track. I had to find ways to have special treats that also have a lot of nutritional bang for the buck, because I'll never be able to give up sweets entirely. The reality is that I discovered I enjoyed the toppings on most sundaes better than the ice cream itself, unless it was super premium ice cream (which means super premium fat and calories). I can still have dessert and lose weight (and not be stuck eating creepy diet food that never satisfies me anyway). Yay!

48. Don't call 'em blueberries in this state

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2007-05-06-huckleberries_N.htm?csp=34

By Gwen Florio, USA TODAY
HUNGRY HORSE, Mont. — The counterfeits come across the U.S. border from Canada by
the truckload, hundreds of pounds a month.

Longtime dealer Marla Hedman says that unscrupulous folks blend them into the good stuff,
diluting its potency. Another, Edward Springman, says the quest for the real thing has inspired
"stories of knives and fights and guns."

Beyond the guns, the knockoffs, the competition over the secret hidden places in the high
country where the best stuff grows looms the scariest threat of all: ravenous grizzlies.

Oh, the things people go through to get their real Montana huckleberries, the small blueberries
that are not, in fact, blueberries.

This is where people in 49 other states might be inclined to shrug and say, "Huckleberries,
blueberries, what's the difference?"

from the link:

<snip>
"When you pay for huckleberry," says Hedman, owner of Larchwood Farms in Trout Creek,
"you don't want to be getting wild blueberry."

Why not?

"They don't melt in your mouth," Hedman says.

The huckleberry "has a much more robust taste," says Springman, who owns the Huckleberry
Haven wholesale business in Kalispell.

Put the same question to huckleberry picker Bruce Opalka of Hungry Horse and he thinks for
a very long time. "Blueberries," he says finally, "are tame."

If I was to put them in order, I'd go with blueberries first, then strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries.

No sugar - ack, they're sweet enough. I don't need any cream, either - just the berries alone is enough for me, in a fruit salad.

I have a berry shake every day, either individual ones or a blend, with some yoghurt and almond milk. Tasty, and good for you! :9

61. I love 'em all in jam or jelly, but fresh, I prefer strawberries and blueberries
There was a summer, when I was living in Providence, when I lived almost exclusively on blueberries in Special K cereal. Could NOT get enough of the blueberries, and the cereal was a really good 'carrier'. I'm surprised I didn't turn blue.

Here's a fantastic strawberry dumpling recipe:

Preheat oven to 450

1/3 cup sugar
2/3 cup water
1 tsp vanilla

1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
2 tbsp sugar
1-1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup milk
1 pint (approx. 2 cups) strawberries, hulled and rinsedj
1 tbsp sugar

In a saucepan, combine 1/3 cup sugar and 2/3 cup water, bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for approx. 5 minutes, stir in vanilla.

In a medium bowl, sift together flour, 2 tbsp. sugar, baking powder and salt.

Cut in butter w/fork or pastry mixer until mixture is crumbly. Add milk and stir just until dry ingredients are moistened.

Place strawberries in 1-1/2 quart casserole disk and pour hot sugar mixture over berries.

Drop dough evenly in 8-10 spoonfuls over berries (I make sure the top of the berries are covered with dough); sprinkle with remaining 1 tbsp sugar and cinnamon, if desired.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until dumplings are lightly browned.

Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.

when we lived in Alabama. She'd make cobbler with them.

71. Raspberries and Blackberries, unadorned
My In Laws grow them by the bucket....My wife was shocked when she saw what they cost.......

We went on vacation to a resort in Williamsburg last year where Blackberries and Raspberries were on the Breakfast buffet......we ate a lot of them.....
