I found a tarantula. I think its going to rain
We found this guy about half an hour ago trying to get in the back door. We found a smaller one last night trying to get in the same door. He was dead this morning. I think the dogs got him.

The last time we saw them trying to get in like this was the big flood we had in San Antonio in 1998, a 500 year flood. It doesn't look good for golf Saturday.

If you want to see the big close up click here. Caution: Not for the squeamish but a great pic.

1. Wow! How big?
I hope it isn't time for another 500 year flood...

2. Not all that big
probably 4 inches stretched out. There are a lot of really big ones around here that fit snuggly in your hand. They're not poisonous and good for controlling bugs.

3. I rarely kill spiders...
I take great pains to stick them in the garden when they venture inside.

Enjoy your visitor!

10. heh Have ya seen the kind of spiders
they have downunder? I love spiders myself but some of those nasty buggers would totally creep me out too.

The rule in my house is, do not kill the spiders.

17. Easy!
I got bitten by an huntsman years ago, and now I fear them all worse than I did before getting bitten.

And for the record, this is a huntsman:

11. Omen?
I remember that flood - and I remember finding several tarantulas in my garage and on my back patio trying to get in the house. Supposed to rain hard tomorrow....you never know!

13. We use cows to forecast rain...
When they stand up - fair weather...
When they lie down - rain
Half the herd standing, half lying - 50% chance of rain

Pretty simple and they have never tried to come in through the door.

I hope you fare well with your pending storm, and remember, some diehard golfers don't let a little rain ruin the game.

14. COOL!
I love tarantulas. Can't pick out the species off the top of my head..do you still live in San Antonio? I love spiders, by the way. Had several pet tarantulas myself.

16. I live in SA
and these tarantulas are common - not very big; don't have a clue about the species - they do creep me out. Still - won't kill them. Scorpions, those I kill with a vengeance.

what people call Wolf Spiders here in southern Tn. I don't know if that's their correct name but they get pretty big. I tried to swat one with a fly swatter once and decided I'd better run for cover.
