I have some very sad news to report
My wife's Uncle Ed, who I have known, loved and adopted as my own 12 years ago, has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. The cancer has metastasized and is in both lungs, his lymph glands and his liver. We don't know how long he has to live because the doctor can not give him a prognosis without doing a biopsy. He has refused this procedure as well as chemo or radiation therapy. He accepts responsibility for what he has done and does not wish to prolong his suffering. He is a beautiful and gentle man and my wife has often recounted fond stories of going to visit him when she was young. He was always her favorite uncle and we both will miss him terribly. Please remember him in your thoughts and prayers today and thank you for taking the time to read this.

9. I'm so sorry, my condolences to you, your wife, and to everyone
else who knows and loves Ed. My sister was just diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer (stage 3 means it has not metastasized) so I understand all the fear and sadness. Ed is making a very courageous and honorable choice. My best to him.

12. I admire your uncle Ed's courage
The reality is that in his case, getting treatments will just add the side effect of the chemo and will not make much of a difference.

I do hope that he contacted a hospice service to make his remaining time on this earth comfortable and free of pain as much as possible.

And this will be an opportunity for members of the family to say their good byes, to tell him how much he meant for you and, yes, to cry together.

My deepest sympathy for you and for your wife.

17. Ed is my Uncle
Thank you all for your kind words of comfort. Ed is my Uncle. He is a sweetheart of a man. Very honorable and dignified. He can talk with you about anything and has always been genuinely interested in whatever we had to say. Even as a young child, he was always interested - never talked down to us. He is my teddy-bear Uncle. I just always wanted to hug him. He and my aunt were never able to have children of their own - she miscarried five times. She died almost five years ago of cancer - a very agressive cancer that metastasized rapidly and she died five weeks after diagnosis. My uncle was diagnosed on Thursday and appears to be in the advanced stages as well. He believes that his time-line will be similar to hers. It is such a painful thought to lose someone but I know it's not going to turn around for him, so, I just pray that God, in his mercy, takes him quickly so he does not suffer.

Hospice has been contacted and I know the next few weeks are going to be difficult ones but, it is a gift to be able to be support for someone as they take the final steps in this life's journey and help them move toward the light. He has always been so special to me and I'm just glad that my husband, Irkthesmirk, and I are here to help him. Please remember us in your prayers.
And, thank you!
