Does your dog ever decide to "sleep in"?
Mine normally wants to be let out at about 5:30 but today he won't get out of bed. Doesn't want to watch the political shows either.

1. Yes.
Sometimes they get up in the night and go outside or play. They'll then sleep all day.

They'll also sleep in, if it's cold outside.

In sunny weather, they get up early, though. Too many birds to chase (unsuccessully), holes to dig, and neighbors to watch.

2. I'd check to make sure he's feeling okay.
Not to be a panic-monger, but if there's such a radical change of behavior, I'd be worried. Of course he might have just had a very active day yesterday, and also as they get older, I've found, they're more likely to want to sleep in. It generally takes me 2 years to teach a new pup that we do not rise with the sun around here! Once they've got that figured out, I sometimes have to haul them out of bed myself to take them out.

4. He sleeps on the bed, and the bed is next to the window
Last night was the first night I left the window open about 6 inches. He's lying next to it. I think the reason he wants out early is because he's hot, maybe this just feels better.

3. Mine sleep until all the people are up
If there's one person left in a bed they will sleep until the last human gets up.

They do like to get up with the first human to rise so they can go to the bathroom, but then it's right back to bed.

After breakfast, Sidney will look for a pool of sunlight shining in and she'll lounge in the light lazily until the sunlight disappears.

5. My dog is a "morning person"
second, and a "people person" first, so, she sleeps until someone is up to let her out, then gets back into bed with a sleeping kiddo until a couple of family members are up.

I hope your dog is OK. :hi:

7. MIne sometimes sleep 16 hr/day
Only because I am a night nurse and sleep all day on the nights I work. They will sleep at night w/ my daughter, get up during the rush-to-school morning hours, then go back to sleep when I go to bed at 9 am and sleep til like 2 or 3. Even on nights off when I get to stay up during the day they go straight to my bed in the morning to sleep. I've had them come and find me in the house and give me a "aren't we all going to bed now" look.

8. Yeah, as they get older they sleep a lot more
I used to have a walker come in while I was gone during the day. But now he's 14 1/2 and as long as I give him 2 walks he really doesn't need 3. He just gets lonely.

9. Ray's life is a sleep-in.
He's probably one of the laziest dogs ever known to mankind:

HippieDog Hank, on the other hand, is up at 6:00 every day, ready to go, go, go:

14. What breed is Hank?
I am curious. My friends have a dog that looks almost like him, we have never been able to figure out his breed!

Great dogs btw!

Hank is Australian Cattle Dog/Beagle mix. 100% insane, but smarter than most of the humans I know.
