small town obit

"Simon the Cat"

1993 - 2007

Simon, 13-7/8 years old, was taken from us very suddenly on April 22, 2007 in the terrible fire at Benson Feed. He was born in Benson, Ariz. in May of 1993. He was a mouse catcher.

He is preceded in death by Simon Sr. and his good buddy, Butch the black lab. He is survived by Ed Fenn.

Simon was the most famous cat in all of southeast Arizona. His greatest achievement was Mr. September 2005, of the San Pedro Humane Society calendar.

Simon will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

__________________________________________________________

He was a cool old cat; long ago some evil kids had gotten a hold of him and trimmed his ears flat at the tips (with scissors?) but he was mellow and spent most of the time asleep in his cardboard box on the counter. And our feed store was one of those real ones, chalk board, old fashioned dial phone, handwritten receipts, credit on your word, all the local gossip

but I do believe it is the first time an animal has been honored by one in that paper. Why do you say that?

4. Never mind
The erstwhile editor in me came out. If I say any more, it's liable to piss off some folks.

5. Say it. We're overdue for a dead cat flame war.

2. A sad day but a life well-lived and loved, it sounds like.
I have a cat named Mew who is just over 17 yrs. old now. She sleeps alot these days, doesn't go very far out of the yard, and measures everything real carefully before she "leaps" (which isn't very far these days either). She is also just about stone deaf.

I can't even think about how much I'll miss her when its time...

Very sorry for your loss.

10. I can't read the business cards,
but the mice watching the cat sleep is kind of funny.

9. It isn't a real feed store without a couple of cats or dogs wandering about.
