1. I really need to get into that show
:hi:

I tried once but he was doing all these calculations so fast and I couldn't follow. I need something new because Criminal Minds is getting so outlandish and CSI is getting gimmicky.

2. I love NUMB3RS!
Yeah, sometimes the speed-of-light math stuff goes right over my head (math is NOT my forte), but I love the show. You should be able to watch the last few episodes on the CBS website, or, if you have OnDemand, you can watch it there.

How you doin', idgie! :hi:

6. Sometimes, it is better just to wait for someone
on the show to say, "tell us in layman's terms what you mean, Charlie" than to try to follow the math.

I learned that tonight when they asked that grains on a chess board question. It started burning my brain the minute they brought it up. It threw me because if a chess board is 8 x 8, and you double the number of grains of grain for each square starting at 1, you would end up having to add up all the powers of 2 from 2 to the power of 0 to 2 to the power of 63. Charlie said 2 to the power of 64 and I immediately went off calculating trying to figure out if he was using calculus or what to get his answer. Then finally, I figured out that he was going to get 2 to the power of 64 and subtract 1 to get the answer an easier way.

I love that show though, even though I rarely get my mind of math for the rest of my Friday nights.

7. I thought I had caught them in an error
when he said 2^64 minus 1.

I went aha the real answer is 2^63 but then I realized he wanted the total of all the grains.

I was thinking he wanted the number of grains on the last square which is 2^63.

The sum of all the grains on all the other squares is just 1 grain shy of being equal the number on the last square, ergo 2^64 minus 1.

5. I still can't believe it.
:wow:

I kept waiting for him to say, "No, I was on a covert op to protect America." He never did though. :wow:
