5. 1995 Toyota Corolla... and it's sad, really...
Not because it's got 80,000 miles and has more leaks than White House officials, but because I've never been in the back seat. I only drive the thing, I never sit as a passenger! (and if you were pervo enough to think of that, well you're also right... )

6. I Drive A Monster
In a way its sort of an embarassement to me but I drive one of the biggest noncommercial passenger vehicles on the road. It a Ford F-250 SuperDuty with the Power Stroke Diesel power. In my defense I have to tell you that I frequently tow a heavy load (over 7,000 pounds) long distances (more than 100 miles at a time). In the truck's defense the diesel engine not only gives me great power for towing but also generally good fuel economy. This 4-ton beast actually gets slightly over 19 mpg in day to day driving and over 20 on the highway (not towing).

7. other - performance sedan
Grand Prix GTP w/supercharger.. THE BLOWER MAN.. THE BLOWER!! (obscure Mad Max reference) My daily driver is a 93 Toyota PU with 150,000+ miles on it. Not much to look at, but reliable as hell. Most I've spent on a "major" repair was $100 when the Bendex plates in the starter motor wore down. I love that little truck!!!

36. Yeah, me too
I play in a band and have to haul equipment to/from gigs, practice, etc. I used to have a minivan but it burned out. I REFUSE to drive an SUV on practical/moral grounds, so I drive a Mercury station wagon.

I suppose it's a four-door sedan, given the above choices.

14. I drive a truck, here's my defense
(OK, I realize that DUers are understanding. This is for my conservative friends who just want to gripe at me.)

I use it as a friggin' truck, so stop whining about my being a hypocrite. I can't haul stuff like mulch, lumber and other large items in a car, so I need a truck. And when I've got it paid off, I plan to buy a hybrid as my main vehicle.

So for all of you who want to chastise me for this, you pay for it, and I'll be more than happy to drive a hybrid every day.

18. 2000 Toyota Corolla
Edited on Fri Jan-16-04 03:49 PM by LynneSin
Will be paid off next month and it still has less than 40k miles on it (when I got it in the beginning of 2001 it had 12k miles on it and I now live 2 miles from work).

It's dark blue and it has a "Dean for America", "DU" and "Create Peace" bumpersticker on the back of it. One of the side windows has one of those oval circles that says "Joe" (in 2002 that was all Joe Biden had to use for campaigning was a sign that said "Joe") and on the other side window is an oval that says "Liberal and Proud" (one of radfringe's designs)

My mother SWEARS it was my bumperstickers that made someone break into my car. I SWEAR it was my cd player and 2 packs of CDs that probably caused it (they got the cd's but didn't wasn't able to get the body of the radio out of the car). I reminded her that I live in a very liberal area of the state and would only break into car because of the bumperstickers if they said "Bush/Cheney".

33. No car for me
I've never owned a car in my life. I haven't had a valid driver's license in over a decade. I *could* say I was doing my part for a healthy environment and making a stand against our auto-centric materialistic society. But the truth is I really hate to drive. I live within walking distance of my work and I don't have kids. When I was a teenager my parents kept wanting to buy me a car but I would have none of it. I held out for a grand piano instead!

52. I voted sports car too, because the sport compact option wasn't listed
A 1996 Ford Probe SE (Mazda designed, engineered and built, but a blue oval hood ornament) Great gas mileage, well over 30 mpg with only me in the car. When fully loaded, I have to cope with around 24 mpg, though this is actually when the car is overloaded by about 200 lbs.

I know I voted sports car, even though I drive a four banging front driver, but its not exactly stock anymore. And come spring, it'll be blowing the doors off many real sports cars when the turbo is finally installed and tuned properly. It'll also get twice the gas mileage of those sports cars to boot, heh.

57. You always answer before I do
I need someone to post a "what's your car?" thread about 3 or 4 AM Eastern. That's the only way my '95 burgundy G20 can claim first listing above GOPisEvil's version, silver as I recall.

My Infiniti is equally appreciated and reliable, and suddenly very well cared for inside, squirt squirt. "Right out of the showroom," my myopic friend insisted the other day.

But still very much in need of a lube, like the last time I answered a similar post, and disgustingly unable to thwart dirt buildup during my recently completed 3-week trip. Are the hybrids self-cleansing?

We also have a '67 Mustang (mint) that I guess I'll stop being too anal about. The rule has always been about not driving it when the salt hits the road. I'm too old for such rules. The car is there to enjoy, and it may well outlive me.

Well, screw that! I'm past fifty, and not inclined to preserve things older that my own self. The car is to be enjoyed, I think. It's just a car, for Christ's sake.

I'll be driving it year-round.

64. I drive a company car
The folks I work for bought me a Buick Century for the 45,000 miles a year I drive on Wisconsin roads. I was driving a Subaru Outback wagon, which I loved. It was hard to get used to the Buick, which I've always thought was a boring Republican kind of car that maybe a retired bank manager would drive.

It's been an interesting spiritual journey, driving a car I would not have chosen for myself. It's helped me see how much I had bought into the American "what you drive says something about who you are" consumerist mindset. Driving this car has nudged me a step closer to an awareness of how easy it is to set up different kinds of idols.

Hmmmmmmmm.
