4. Imagine....
...if there were 38,000 D.U.ers making an effort to do voter registration between now and the mid-summer. If each of us registered 100 people, that would mean that there would be almost 4 million democratic votes this fall. If we continue to have a long distance discussion about current events, it will be a fun way to waste time. If we do the serious work, it means victory in the fall.

21. I have registered voters for years.
It is much more fun if you get a group of friends and work together. I'm from a rural, upstate New York county, with a republican majority. I worked for many years at a county mental health clinic. We would pick 2-3 nights a week, and then have 6-8 of us go out in a van to low-income neighborhoods, and register voters. In time, some of the sticks-in-the-mud from the board of elections tried to make it more difficult for us in a variety of ways that only a dull-wit could come up with. We had a blast.
College campuses, trailor parks, etc should become d.u. targets for registration, education, and participation.
Every county has voter registration form. You have a legal right to at least 25 (in NYS, at least). Become familiar with them. Help anyone interested fill it out while you are there; take it with you; turn it in. Keep a list of names & addresses, phone #'s. Come election eve, or in the days before, make phone/personal contact. I will register numerous voters between now and August. I hope to reach as many as possible. I hope that more people learn the power that flows from participatory democracy. Power to the people!

6. Just Wondering
Edited on Fri Jan-16-04 07:04 PM by YNGW
How many of those 38,000 were disrupters or who logged on for a day or week and never came back?

I'd like to see a number of those who have been here for more than one year and who consistently contribute to the discussion, not just once or twice every week or so.

8. I bet a query could be run to figure it out
select count(*) from du.users where "some predicate"

Can DUers run queries with an http interface?

9. I'd be interested to know that as well.
Only because I love number-crunching.

Hey admins! What's the active/tombstoned ratio?

12. They won't do it
Do this though, pick a letter in the profiles window, click on every id that comes up

You'll see a huge percentage that have made less than 5 comments

15. Yeah...
I suppose someone with too much time on their hands could figure it out, but I don't have that kind of patience. I'd get halfway through the A's, say "fuck it", and just estimate the rest.

Maybe there's a spiffy internet-saavy trick that someone could employ?

17. Here is a swag
I'd say there are about 25k valid users and among them are about 35% sleeper freepers. That leaves quite a bit less than 38k users.

This is ONLY a guess.
