Prednisone sucks.
I had a psycho reaction last night, in addition to my allergic reaction to one of the other asthma meds (we don't know which one), and I got very messed up.

That's all. Carry on. :hi:

1. Sounds terrible.
I've never had to take it but had to give it to my kitty recently. What kind of psycho reaction did you have?

3. I went manic.
My thoughts started racing, and I remember thinking I had to walk to the hospital (in the next town over--half hour drive by freeway--don't know what I was thinking) and bagging up all my meds to show the doctor. Thing is, Hubby's a doctor, but he was tired from being on-call, so I didn't think he was taking me seriously.

My mom's a happy manic--and last night scared the hell out of me. I guess we can scratch prednisone off the list.

15. Oh, he well knows the problems with prednisone.
He managed to calm me down, gave me the benadryl I needed for the allergic reaction to another medicine I was on for the asthma, and he really helped out with my meds today (since my doctor didn't get back to me until late this afternoon).

8. I was on it for a couple of years. I wonder if it has anything to do with
me being biploar now?

16. I'm better. Thanks.
I'm still not feeling all the way better, but I'm definitely doing better than I did last night.

5. I'm sorry.
I feel very lucky that I haven't been put on prednisone yet. It's a possibility, and the side effects aren't nice.

I really hope you're doing okay. Please be well.

7. Stay on it long enough and you'll have the moon face and stretchmarks everywhere
However, credit where credit is due, had I not taken it during an extremely severe ulcerative colitis flare up I would have had a colostomy bag at age 11.

Still, I feel your pain.

9. yeah, the bloating, the moon face, the insomnia
gaaaah! I have to use it occasionally for my asthma and it makes me feel like holy hell. Which is better than not breathing but still no fun.

19. I was prescribed Prednisone for a Gout Attack
It made me whacko and I gained 30 pounds. On the other hand, that was 6 years ago and there's been no gout since......

20. The side effects are horrible.
My Mom had to take it for a while, and she got all the side effects - increased blood sugar, increased appetite, weight gain, muscle weakness, sleeplessness, rapid and dramatic mood swings, decreased immune system, fragile skin, delayed healing of even minor wounds, swelling in the feet, and even hallucinations at the strongest intravenous dosage. She got ALL of these side effects. Her condition was much worse than the condition she was given prednisone for. I now think of prednisone as a last-possible-resort treatment that is applicable only to situations where the patient would die if prednisone wasn't used.

21. I agree. I'd have to be dying to go through that again.
I had all the bloating, increased appetite, skin problems, swollen hands and feet, and then I went crazy. Never again. I wish we had better options than prednisone for many things.

22. My sister takes it for Lupus
Its terrible for her. The side effects of prednisone drive her crazy, but when she is off of it the Lupus just makes her life miserable. She is on a permament roller coaster of on and off and adjusting levels of it for the rest of her life...:-(

23. Can she use Humira?
I have a friend who's on that for something else (still autoimmune, though), and it's made a world of difference for her. She is allergic to most every other treatment, but that one seems to be working.

Lupus sucks. I'm so sorry she's fighting that. After living with some chronic health problems for ten years, I can honestly say that chronic pain and suffering seriously suck and that few understand what it's like unless they or a close loved one are going through it.

24. I never heard of Humira
I will have to ask. She was in a NIH run study for Lupus for a long long time with a great doctor, so I think Prednisone was unfortunately her best option.

25. It's an injection therapy, which stinks, but it seems to work.
At least, it's working for many for rheumatoid arthritis and now Crohn's, so I wonder if it would help for lupus.
