Empathy, please. I'm in the middle of moving.
And when your name is GrandmaBear, you've accumulated a lot of stuff!

2. ah - moving
Out of state? Across town?

Yep, got an accumulation myself. Am slowly trying to pare it down, so whenever it must come, the next move won't be so bad as the last.

Giving stuff to pals helps. Ebay or flea market can sometimes help.

11. Ah, MrsGrumpy, you remembered!
:hi: He's a little discombobulated. Has his way to get from point a to point b and takes awhile to figure out a different route, around the boxes.

13. Poor baby...I remember our last Sheltie Maggie (before this one, Jessie)
When my husband moved her, she was so disoriented she just laid on the couch for 2 days...I hope he, and you enjoy your new home.:-)

If need be, I'll park car in shade and leave him in it for awhile. He likes being there -- it's kinda like a den for him.

Am sending good vibes (and please do the same!) for an easy and fun move. Hey, it could happen...!

12. Oxymoron? "easy and fun move"
It's amazing -- I think stuff reproduces when I'm not looking. All the best to you on your own move, soothsayer.

6. Cute! {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{EMPATHY}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
Are you happy about your move, otherwise?

Are you moving far?

In three years I'm going to ask for "empathy", too!
I'll be moving to Hawaii from New York and everytime I look at
something now it's whether or not I'll take it with me.

14. I was gonna say, "pity me,"
but it seemed so, er, pitiful.

I'm moving less than 100 miles. It's the packing and unpacking that I find aversive -- it takes so much time and so many boxes!

So, what do I do but start a thread to distract myself from what I should be doing!

New York to Hawaii. Wow! Will that be for keeps, or temporary, zidzi?

23. For Keeps!
Distraction? You're just getting some much needed "empathy" and I agree it's a much better word than "pity"!

That's a ways, too, a 100 miles.

I seem to be the long distance mover, though.

I've moved back and forth across the continent about 5 times in my life and once from Hawaii to New York in 1998! But when I go back to Hawaii it will be forever!

But, life goes on.

Oh my GOODNESS there is a lot of crap that accumulates over so much time and we have a number of family things that we have to preserve. Trying not to miss a damned thing ...

17. A lot of stuff accumulates during 30 years in the same place.
Misery loves company. I feel better, now that you shared yours. Hope your move goes smooth. Attachments to things are something, aren't they, Pepperbelly?

9. I don't help people move...
and I don't expect anyone to help me when I move.

I had to adopt that policy because a lot of my friends move every 6 months or so and I got sick of helping.

I know, I'm a jerk.

who stay put. There's a lot to be said for stability, my mother used to say, and she was right!

I keep thinking I'm just going to call those folks at the salvage yard and have 'em submit a bid on the entire lot of my stuff & then I'll just start over.

20. Mom? I'm working as hard as i can...
jeez, i'm in the midst of this too. My parents have decided to move from the homestead that i thought they would never leave. I had pictured them buried there when that time came.
as my dad said, 'if i had only a 10 year head start....' but we don't and all of my other siblings are at a distance.

i can't complain, i have a stained glass window from the homestead that i replaced with a clear glass window . I wanted a
memento.

YARD SALE!!!! G'maBear. Leave some behind you and take the cash with you!!

My husband, I and our four-year-old son just moved into our new digs--by ourselves. NEVER AGAIN. Next time we're getting a dozen Sao Paolo stevedores to move us.
