8. And if it doesn't loosen up, surgery is needed.
I know. I had serious, life threatening pneumonia when my immune system was destroyed by stress and I was 33 years old.

They put me in the hospital, and gave me antibiotic IVs, expecting me to cough it up. It didn't break up, it solidifed and I could have drowned in my own pus (sorry to be so gross).

My doctor had to do a bronchoscopy and rinse out my lungs four times in five years, under general anesthesia, so I wouldn't die.

4. Life threatening
esp. if the person has respiratory problems. It almost killed my mother almost 3 years ago, she has asthma. It did kill the sales rep at my gym, and he had asthma and was only 36.

Get to a doctor immediately. My mother woke up fine one morning, and by early evening, was in intensive care.

9. Very serious,

In fact fatal if not treated. Check into the ER.

Don't forget that a pneumonia shot is available.

Medicare will cover it, too.
