Somehow termite got a virus on the computer. It is slowing my while system down! I redirects me to porn sites...ack! I have norton and have the updated drivers. I have used ad-aware to no avail...Help! My system is running like molases in January.

What kind of fix is DHS having MS install on our computers? is it something to monitor us with?

2. That bites
I wish I could give you some advice. My computer crashed yesterday; it wouldn't open any programs at all. After trying to restart it in safe mode three times, I ended up having to do a full systems recovery.:grr: Lost some stuff & had to spend time putting everything back the way I like it.

3. Pop up the Task Manager . . .
. . . Ctrl+Alt+Del. (I am assuming you are running Windows)

Something that is slowing down your system should appear as an application. Be careful, many things run on your system that you are not aware of. If you are using XP, click the Applications Tab. If there is nothing questionable there you might check the Processes Tab, but that usually has about thirty entries. Click on CPU to sort by processor usage or Mem Usage to find what may be hogging your memory.

That may give you some clue.

6. Actually, this is a good thing to do often
In my book, anyway.

I like to see what apps are running and if there isnt anything I'm absolutely sure of, I google the app name to see if its a normal call or something running in the background like a keylogger.

its a good idea all around.

4. Check your bookmarks list.
I had a porn problem for a while. When I typed "google.com", I would wind up at a porn site. If I typed "http://google.com", I got to google.

Eventually, porn started replacing porn so quickly that not even the porn site seemed to have control of my computer. For a while, it would try to open with some WARNING! THE GOVERNMENT MAY BE..., but then the porn would overtake it.

I ran Norton Virus Scan, no viruses. Then I ran Ad Aware, nothing there.

What I did find is that three porn addresses had been added to my bookmarks list. They were:

Your favorite porn sites
Nude Nurses
Your favorite search

I never clicked any of these, but I assume "Your favorite search" was also porn since it had added itself. I deleted those, and a few days later, they came back, but they remained gone after the second deletion.

Do you know anything about "Host" files? I found something new in that folder labelled "etc". It was only 2 kb. I was afraid to delete it in case it was something real & useful as opposed to porn.

I don't now what else to suggest. Check your bookmarks.

8. Think we got
a live one here. Porn sites can overtake your computer just from clicking on a spam e-mail. What a damn idiot.

9. PornBot
Edited on Sun Aug-03-03 04:10 AM by tweekinnow
Here is a better link for Kolla

http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?lang=en&page=news

If the link doesn't activate cut/paste it into your browser addy. bar.

You have picked up a Porn Dialer, probably redirected from some spammail or a malicous website. When you download and run SpyBot there is a link on the last screen to scrub active X and flash files, follow that link and scrub those too. Also You need a register cleaner like "regclean" and a memory manager like "Cacheman".Register cleaners remove all the junk file parts that spyware leaves behind in your register and "Cacheman" makes Windows use the hard drive instead of hogging your ram, speeding up your desktop a lot.Any Questions? E Mail or P.M.Me.Oh, I'm new here,Hi! best,David

P.S.

The Guy who called you a "Perv" doesn't know a 'puter from a condom machine.

12. Don't think so
I get the majority of my alerts when I'm on DU. And these happened faster than I've ever seen before.

16. I'm on 98 but this is what I've done when nothing else works
Clean up you're internet cache.
Recall when the problem started and do a file search for files anywhere that were created on that date. You may be able to narrow it down that way. The file or folder may have an obvious name.
