My son was born April 2, 1977. Going to see Star Wars was our first movie outing after the kid was born. Didn't know anything about it, just that is sounded Sci Fi and we thought we might like it.Geez, we were totally blown away by it.
Star Wars was the first movie we took him to. He was 4. It was re released right before Empire came out. He already had quite a lot of the action figures and stuff and new the story from the books and tapes. When the Millenium Falcon came on the screen, he yelled "I have one of those!"
Empire was the first movie I took his little brother to see. He was three. It was a matinee and he ran up and down the aisles acting like he had a light sabre in his hand. After that the only thing he would wear to nursery school was a Darth Vadar T-shirt, white rubber rain boots, green shorts and a storm trooper helmut.
We had all the action figures, the Millenium Falcon and whatever other toys went with the movies. We even had Star Wars bed spreads. Still have those somewhere.
They breathed Star Wars. Not only did they have the dialogue memorized, they had the choreography. They and their friends would watch the videos, each playing a part doing the dialogue and acting out the fight scenes.
They were in college when the new movies came out. The disappointment in those films was pretty intense.
