Saw where a new Mini Cooper D coming with 72 miles to gallon.

But they are expensive - too expensive for me.

And friends that have one say it is in the shop a lot. Looks good, though.

The entry-level One features a perky 95hp 1.4-litre petrol engine, while the Cooper D boasts performance and fuel efficiency from an all-new 1.6-litre 110hp turbodiesel powerplant.

A Cooper-badged MINI diesel hints at the sporty nature of the new model. MINI fans will be equally excited at the prospect of the Cooper D promising to be the most fuel-efficient and cleanest MINI ever built. In comparison to the outgoing MINI One D’s combined fuel consumption of 58.9mpg, the Cooper D is capable of 64.2mpg. A CO2 figure of just 118 g/km puts the car in tax band B."


So its a turbo diesel that gets about 65MPG. Still, not bad. And diesel is cheaper than unleaded around here.

The Mini One has been around since they were first introduced but have never been sold here, only in Europe.

The Mini USA website doesnt even mention it.

I've had my Mini for 3 years and all its ever needed is oil change. I've changed the plugs, plug wires and cleaned the airfilter myself and replaced the tires. All the other Mini owners pretty much tell me the same thing.
What I would like to get is the station wagon Traveler version.
