I finally remembered!!

I've been saving my plastic grocery bags for forever. I just can't bring myself to throw them away, even before I saw An Inconvenient Truth. I've just been saving them and saving them, and I had built up quite a collection.

A few months ago, I noticed that my grocery store had a plastic bag recycle bin outside the store. I have been saying that I was going to take my grocery bags over and recycle them, but I always forget.

Well, tonight, I had to make a run to the store. I started to pull out and drive down the street and remembered the bags. I turned around, turned on my hazards, and ran in to get them. I got to the store and happily put my bags in for recycling.

I think I'm going to switch to canvas grocery bags, but for now, I'm proud of myself for finally remembering to take them.

Do you recycle your bags or use reusable canvas bags for your groceries?

Just don't do it as often since I got canvas (polypropylene, actually) bags at Albertson's, which also has a recycle bin.

I'm just thinking about cutting down my usage by converting to non-plastic.

You know...be eco-friendly, and stuff. ;)

They hold about 50 percent more stuff, so it's only like two trips from the car to the kitchen.

I've been contemplating taking them to other stores, too. So they say "Albertson's;" is Target or someplace gonna keep me from using 'em?

It's worth a shot, especially if it's bigger than a normal bag.

I just hate that the stupid plastic bags are thinner and end up breaking half the time. It's no help if my groceries are on the ground.

I got 10 of the Albertson's bags, not realizing how much they hold (they were only a buck each), so I could stick duct tape over the logo on four or five of 'em for other stores.

Or even better — DU stickers and other lib'rul propaganda. :bounce:

I will have to try and remember to put them in my car to take to the store the next time I go.

I suggest putting them in a bigger bag in the way. Not that it helped me. I just walked around it.

And I mean that! It's those "little things" that we can't seem to get done that bug us for the longest time.

My thing is bringing stuff to the goodwill donation truck...that's in the parking lot of the grocery store.

I use reusable cloth bags for ALL of my shopping, be it groceries, sewing supplies, etc. I made the bags myself...they're strong, durable, able to carry much more than the plastic bags, and can be thrown in the washer (liquid stuff leaked in one of them once). They're also my favorite color. I get lots of compliments on them, too!

PM me if you'd like me to make a set for you...can make them from your favorite color and could even line one or two of them for stuff like frozen food, veggies (sometimes veggies are wet), etc.

I have a sewing machine that I got for my birthday that I've been too afraid to use. I don't think I'm adept at sewing though I've never tried. This might get me on my way to sewing like I really want to.

And hey--don't sweat it. Making these bags is a cinch. I designed my own pattern, which is super-easy, and I get two good-sized bags per yard of fabric. Feel free to ask questions if you need help! :hug: to you too!

I'm sure I'll think of a million questions in time.

They come in handy when my cat misses the box.

I do use them as trash pail liners for the bathroom and bedroom.

I would never be able to use them all for that, though.

I do think that re-purposing can be just as good as recycling.

...I like that.

Taking an object and using it in a different location for a different purpose.

I think the term works well here.

I don't recycle them but use them in small garbage containers and throw them out instead of getting the small barrel all dirty....so I reuse them....

I do use them as liners for some garbage containers, but I just can't go through them all.

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

And I put the groceries in my backpack so I don't use any bags. And, I only shop for myself, so I'm not dissing anyone that drives and uses plastic bags.

I should do that, but I have to buy for my husband and me, and he can't live without his 12 packs of Diet DP.

I would fall over and break myself if I tried to bike with groceries and a 12 pack. :rofl:

and just love my Saturday morning trip to the transfer station. Glass, tin cans, plastic (grocery bags included) in one roll off dumpster, cardboard (flattened) in another, and paper in another. I've gotten down to one very small kitchen bag of garbage a week after composting. That's good considering we have four adult people living at my house.
