How smart is the average person who supports *?
I think this statement sums up that intelligence level, it's completely actual and taken from another board:

GEORGE BUSH FUCKIN RULES HE'S THE ONLY GUY WHO HAS THE BALLS TO COME OUT AND SAY FUCK YOU TERRORISTS MOTHER FUCKERS AND HAD THE BALLS TO GO FIND THAT BASTARD SADDAM CUZ IF AL GORE (PUSSY) WOULDVE BEEN PRESIDENT SADDAM WOULD BE BANGING SOME FAT IRAQI CHICK WITH BILL CLINTON RIGHT NOW WHILE AL GORE TOKED IT UP IN THE CORNER PLAYIN WITH HIS PECKER. LATE IM OUT.

3. Well,
According to some website called conservative chicks or something like that, (I think someone posted it here on DU, I'm too drunk to remember) Jessica "Chicken of the Sea is real chicken" Simpson is apparently quite the supporter of minibrain.

On the bright side, whoever wrote this can't possibly be old enough to vote, right?

6. Even if they are old enough..
A good chance they're not smart enough to find a voting booth.

7. I think that's too simplistic
While there are tons of people who fall into the category you describe, there are also those such as my friend/acquaintance who is a veterinarian. He is obviously a thoughtful and intelligent person. We frequent the same athletic club bar and sit next to each other on Sunday afternoons reading our respective copies of the NYTimes. Very pleasant guy.

But get us on politics and...WOW! He is a die-hard Republican and will vote for W regardless of whatever facts are brought out about what a danger he is to the entire planet (now the universe).

I don't get it, but I can't say I can buy the notion that only relative idiots are Bush lovers.

On the other hand, I have not met any relative idiots who are Democrats, so there definitely is something to this overall theory.

Maybe my veterinarian friend is driven by his financial statement, rather than his humanity. I don't even think he likes animals that much (he sold his clinic last year and retired and he has no pets.)
At least he has a monetary stake involved, even though it means he puts that above any social good. Iti makes more sense that lots of these other guys, like my barely-middle-class cousin, always in debt, who will never get any more (and lots less) from the Bushista policies than the $300 early return on his taxes. He says it's all about about W's "leadership" after 9/11 and that's all he bases his vote on...

Go figure. I can't. I'm just glad to be able to point out that not ALL rich people are Rebublicans. Like Soros and Gates, and Gates's father...that's three. And a bunch of wealthy Hollywood or Broadway types. I hope there are many more...I don't know them though.

Ted Turner, and the guy who owns Progressive auto insurance, a lot of Hollywood types are liberal too. Woody Harrelson is Green.

9. I wouldn't say they're necessarily stupid
But I will say that i think anybody who votes for * in 2004 is either selfish or very gullible.

15. yeah, I know some "intelligent" Bush supporters, too...
... one fellow I know is a brilliant programmer, a great musician. But he would probably support Bush even its found out that he's a child molester.

this type of support seems to go beyond reason...

I think it has more to do with some irrational hatred of democrats. If you pin these guys in the corner and start discussing this stuff, 9 times out of 10, they'll start talking about Hillary Clinton almost immediately.

10. What I've noticed
Is that the republicans tend to fall into at least one of the following groups:

1. Rich and greedy
2. Greedy and want to be rich
3. Bigotted against at least one of: gender, race, religion, sexual orientation and think that whatever their bigotry is should be the prime concern of the lawmakers
4. Religious fundamentalist, antiabortion, believe in guns, war and death penalty and think they have a direct line to God
5. Really stupid and can't spell
6. Easily lead by blatant propaganda and lies

I'm sure I missed some.

11. when you boil it all down,
I think it comes down to, as I said above, greedy, hateful and/or stupid.

I'm not arguing, I'm just refining. :)

16. It's a winner all right!
We could take a lesson from it. I haven't seen posts on this board that are quite that bad, but I have seen a few approaching it.

The prime difference I see (between "them" and "us"); one that is far more dangerous is this: (after regularly browsing several conservative blogs and progressive blogs) progressives seem to flame each other far more often. Let's face it. One of our first orders of business on DU and throughout the progressive world must be to stop the infighting and direct our efforts towards the real enemy.

(If you don't believe it, browse a few Gungeon or GD Primary threads here on DU.)
