Bad handwriting...
I have noticed over the last several years that my handwriting has gotten worse. I was talking to a few people the other day who say the same thing about their handwriting. We all agreed that the reason must be the proliferation of personal computers. While we're becoming better (and faster) typists, we are "forgetting" how to write with a pen or pencil.

Anyone here notice this in themselves?

I wonder if this will someday show up in the evolutionary process, by which the fingers that get more use in typing will grow larger and stronger and the fingers that get less use will dwindle away.

1. yes, absolutely
Mine was never that legible to begin with but now, I mostly print when I write, rather than use cursive.

4. Don't know about the rest of us, but...
...bad handwriting seems to be a professional requirement for doctors.

5. I've always had horrible handwriting, even before I started typing a lot.
I personally like my shitty handwriting. :P

6. I also noticed I can't spell correctly anymore either. I think it's the spell checker
I was rather surprised that I had to think about spelling correctly in the last few years. I used to win the spelling bee in school!

7. Oh, absolutely
I recently went back to school and was surprised to find out how fast my hand cramped up when taking notes. I've finally toughened up a bit but I have to transcribe my notes on the computer as soon as I get home because they're basically illegible and I'd never remember what they meant if I waited. :eyes:

8. Nah, it's old age
LOL

Everyone in my clan had the same degeneration of penmanship - well before computers.

And we tend to mumble more as we age ;) Think it might be that we just don't see the point in trying to communicate after decades of dealing with too many fools in life.

9. my handwriting is almost completely illegible
I can't even read it and getting worse all the time. If I half to write something that needs to be read at some future time - I print.

10. I don't have much problem with
my handwriting, but I've noticed that many people, myself included, are not becoming better typists at all. Maybe faster, but not better. People here make fun of FR for their typos and, while they are fewer here, they still proliferate all over the web. I've also noticed myself having problems selecting the proper homonym when typing quickly sometimes.

11. For me, it depends on what I'm writing
Things that I'm writing for myself that are likely to only be read by me are legible but nothing great because I figure if I'm the only one seeing it there's no point in spending much time on it. I find that if I slow down and put a little more effort into it I can write almost as well as I used to write back in elementary/junior high school; I usually just don't feel like slowing down that much. As for excess typing, my speed may have improved a bit, but I'm more worried that a couple of my recent jobs that involved a lot of computer keyboard/mouse usage are going to cause me to have carpal tunnel syndrome!
