Polar Bear Knut at 6 months old - pics!

Berlin's baby polar bear Knut will be 6 months old in a couple of days. He's getting to be a big handsome fellow! Here are some new pics I scrounged off the web.

2. Yeah, he actually received a death threat...

...a couple of months back. Some crazy asshole sent a note to the zoo, complete with a date and time, and they upped the security, but fortunately nothing happened.

Then there was one very warped "activist" who claimed it would have been kinder to put him down than to raise him in captivity - but that person did not speak for any animal rights group or community. And obviously, Knut would disagree! You can see how much fun he's having in the water.

3. My friends returned from overwintering in Germany. They said there were groups of activists

agitating for euthanizing Knut.

I hadn't read or heard about little Knut at all.

They said there were groups of animal rights people though they weren't in the majority.

4. I'd heard it was only one crazy...

...who got a disproportionate amount of press. He was roundly denounced by the animal rights community, if I recall. But maybe he infected others.

Anyway, they seem to have crawled back under their rocks.

"Knut losing cuteness as snout lengthens" - do people really think he'll be stuck in babyhood forever? I wish kittens could stay so charming, but they grow into beautiful adult creatures. Same with Knutie the Cutie.
