Some jerk took my shopping cart in the grocery store today
Edited on Sun Jun-03-07 06:51 PM by Liberalynn
I was cruising along half way done with my shopping and making what I thought was pretty good time. I stopped to help my sister look for a book she wanted and to glance at the magazines. I left my cart at the end of the aisle so as not to crowd anyone. I try to be courteous.

I went back to get my cart five minutes later and it was gone. I looked all around the area nearby and could not locate it. I was fuming. I was not overjoyed at the prospect of having to start my shopping all over again because the store's pretty big and it was crowded.

My sister started searching too and she finally found my cart about seven aisles over, a section of the store I hadn't even been in yet. She called me on the cell to let me know. That was fifteen minutes of both our time wasted.

Someone must have ditched it there after realizing it was not their cart. Couldn't they have seen the items were not theirs before they took it or brought it back to where they had picked it up, once they realized their error? I mean when I put the cart there, there were no others nearby. Thank God I never leave my purse in the cart.

I know mistakes are easy to make and it was probably not on purpose but it was just darn frustrating. From now on though I am not being courteous about taking up to much room in the aisles with my cart anymore. I am just taking it right with me, and too bad if it gets crowded with it there. I don't want to be rude but I don't want to have my cart taken again.

1. Maybe it was some kids?

I've had that happen before and it was the re-stock clerk... just doing their job putting stuff back on the shelf! :P

Now I always keep a hand on my cart and I seatbelt my purse in the baby seat too! ;)

2. You're right, it might have been kids who thought it was funny.

I never thought about a restock clerk putting the things back either. People probably have abandoned carts with stuff in them, if they have to leave suddenly like for a kid throwing a tantrum, or suddenly realzing they forget their wallet in the car.

My sister said her cart ended up missing once before too and she never found it, and she was finnished shopping and had just stopped to get stamps from the customer service desk before checking out. She was just glad she hadn't paid for the groceries yet.

4. Well; at least you are considerate!

You try to keep your cart out of the way of other shoppers.
I seem to run into road/aisle hogs all the time. And I hate the
ones who park their cart right in front of the items I'm looking at!!
WTH is up with that? Am I invisible??

And I am always having the little kids run into me with the shopper in training carts.

I have also seen mothers take out whole displays trying to steer those carts with the kiddie cars attached to them. I almost got taken out once by toppling crackers.

10. Don't even get me started on 'kiddie carts '! Argh!!
Edited on Sun Jun-03-07 07:19 PM by Breeze54
I mean, really? Do they need a tank to go get the groceries? And the special parking spaces?
'Moms with Small Children' and the 'Moms-To-Be Parking' spaces? Sorry but that aggravates me!
Maybe it's jealousy, 'cause they never had those when I had my little ones! :(

12. We don't have the parking spaces yet.
I don't blame you on the jealously part either. I don't have kids but when I was a kid, I had to sit in that uncomfortable cart strapped in, and was told not to "touch" anything.

13. Between the handicap spaces, which are cool
and the 'prego parking' and the 'Moms with Kids' specified parking;
almost all the 'near the store door' parking is gone! Really sucks in winter!

3. Sorry, that was me
Not really, but I am really bad about going back to "my" cart and then realizing it's not. I never go more than a foot or two though

All my items were still in it though, thank heaven, and my sister found it just sitting in the middle of another aisle.

If I hadn't have found it, I was just going to tell my sister to finish her shopping and I'd meet her in her truck.

I wasn't going to start over again if I hadn't found it, I was just going to go back later in the week.

16. I can top that story
I do the same thing and I usually have coupons spread out on the seat compartment. One day I had a bag and some items in my cart and came back to find my coupon for a free bag of chocolate chip cookies missing.

Then I look over and see some old man with the coupon in his hand reaching for a bag of cookies!!!

I almost let it go, but it was so incredibly rude I just couldn't. I walked over to him and asked him where he "found" his coupon. He could tell he was busted, pointed to my cart, but didn't hand it back to me. I just snatched it from his hand and said, "Well, I'll take my coupon back, thank you very much."

19. I've tromped off with someone elses' cart before!
None of the stuff in the basket was what I had put in there that day, but it was all the exact same stuff I buy, and it was all in the basket by the handle where I put everything unless it won't all fit. I did of course try to go back and retrace my steps to return the car to its rightful owner, though, when I found out I had the wrong cart. The owner was just realizing I was the cart thief right about the time I spotted her!

20. That happens to me a lot in a few stores around here
Only usually my cart is empty - I go to get what I wanted and find that some asshole has taken off with my empty cart.
