It was all I could do when I shot up when they whacked Bobby not to wake him. Then with Silvio - I was covering my mouth!

I guess I'm blind, but I totally didn't seeing it going that way until Italy screwed up their hit.

...were Chrissie still alive, would he have screwed the hit up that badly?

Of course, Tony and Sil admitted they had no chance to get Phil because went "to the ground" so early.

79. Maybe the producers were making a statement against outsourcing
lol...but seriously what a brilliant fucking episode! Last season was only so-so but they have really stepped up their game with this year's installment. I can't wait to see how it all ends...the way they are setting it up, it is probably going to be one of the greatest series finales ever...I'm so excited!

Did anyone notice that they were playing "The End" by The Doors in the Bing right before all that shit went down?

Fulfilling the dream sequence he had while in the coma -- the regular salesman guy, stuck in a strange city, and missing and wanting to get back to the family that he loves and is so devoted to. His struggle between living the gangster life and being the regular family guy would finally be over.

For Tony, the die were cast a long time ago, just like like with his sociopathic sister Janice.

56. That's one way to keep the show alive for a movie
Probably the only plausible one, come to think about it.

70. Sal "Big Pussy" Bompansiero (sp?)...
...was one of Tony's oldest friends in the family and captain of one of Tony's crews. He was pinched by the feds for moving "H" (heroin) and they put the squeeze on him to turn evidence or do time in a federal pen. Pussy turned.

Word came back to Tony through a crooked cop that there was a rat loose in the family. At one point it looked like the family made Pussy but they zeroed in on another guy as the rat and Sil whacked him.

Pussy developed Stockholm syndrome, going through a phase where he was acting like a "Jr. G-Man," had a wreck while following Christopher to a boost and got in trouble with his contact agent. The agent underscored to Pussy that there was no way he could parlay his informant role into skipping jail, that he would testify, serve a reduced sentence, then go into relocation.

At this point, Pussy started realizing he was in a no-win situation.

Tony became suspicious but wouldn't admit Pussy's complicity to himself until his dreams started screaming it to him so loudly he could no longer ignore it. Tony, Paulie and Sil took Pussy out on a boat Tony was looking at, shot him below deck and dumped him into the drink.

It haunted Tony for a while.

91. Fuckin' vindaloo!!!!!
Remember Tony had food poisoning the night he dreamed about Pussy? He had eaten Indian food and became violently ill. I remember him screaming 'fuckin' vindaloo!!!' as he was bent over the toilet, heaving his guts out. That was funny!

69. I think they're portraying the depression realistically enough
I'm in the middle of one myself and since I'm not a teenager I'm maybe a little less self absorbed but think of how scary it would be to be told you literally have to run for your life when you're barely coping as it is.

68. Prediction:Tony gets whacked, AJ kills Leotardo
I have no idea what is going to happen, I just thought I would make this prediction.

I liked Bobby! I've noticed that they've made his character smarter and smarter over the seasons, he doesn't seem under Janice's thumb so much.

Great episode, I was on the edge of my seat.

76. Bobby getting clipped took me by suprise.
Syl too. I hope the final is a two-hour show. But I don't see Tony surviving if he doesn't flip. I could see AJ getting into the business to avenge Tony's death if Tony buys the farm.

78. !Spoilers within! David Chase is more honest...
Edited on Mon Jun-04-07 12:32 AM by misanthrope
... about all of this than many of the fans are.

Chase realizes, foremost, these guys are monsters. The beauty of the show is that he has drawn us into them but still never lets us forget--if we choose to look--how horrific they actually are.

Chase also knows there are only so many possible outcomes for these type guys and none are really good. You go to jail or you die, that's about it. Sometimes both.

A couple of things about tonight's show:

One, I found Janice's grief hard to stomach coming from a woman as twisted as she, someone who was as cognizant of the whole scenario, as eager to manipulate it as anyone else in the family. This is the woman who shot Richie Aprille at point blank range at the table one night. Deep down, she's as cold as any other character on the show.

Two, I found it hard to believe Sil and Patsy were caught as unawares as they were while leaving the Bing. I would have thought in that situation, they would been in all out paranoid mode, armed to the teeth and ready to plug anything that cropped up.

Three, I'm amazed no one else caught a bullet in the train store. Poor stupid Bobby.

Something like this always brings mixed feelings for fans. You enjoy good storytelling and love the suspense and drama and well fleshed out characters, but at the same time there's a relief inside that the story is reaching the finale of its arc. Ultimately, we always want to know the end. Resolution is always bittersweet satisfaction.

There was a real sad quality to the dinner scene where Tony and Sil start slow motion boxing to the music from Raging Bull, a movie that was as softly tragic as anything Scorsese ever did where no one died in its course. You could really feel at that point the end was near.

It's been fun for sure.

81. I'm surprised that anyone's surprised about the hits tonight.
They totally telegraphed it at the beginning: Phil and his goons discussed who runs the family, said it's Tony, Sil and Bobby, and Phil gave the order to "decapitate." From that point on, I was just waiting for when. The camerawork in the train store was brilliant (but again, no surprise that's where Bobby got whacked), and you knew Sil was next. 'Cause they told us who they were going to hit.

Even last week's weird scene with the disembodied Phil yelling at Tony from inside his house was a big hint that Phil was going into hiding, and that usually only means one thing (turf war, the boss lays low).

Excellent, excellent show.

92. Phil's side went into hiding first.
Tony's side screwed up the hit on Phil, and was left scrambling when the other side went into action, then down goes Bobby, down goes Sil.

90. Bobby left his phone in the car, when Tony told everyone
that they must be informed, unfortunate for Bobby, brutal murder scene, and Syl that was bad too. Now the finale is coming up I wonder if Tony will be eliminated, well, I guess they won't have a Sopranos reunion show.

97. QUESTION: What did Tony mean by his rant to Janice?
"You're husband, Janice, exile on main street!" I know it's a Stones title, but what did Tony mean? That was before Bobby got hit.

And yes, it looks like only ONE hour next week. Damn!
