Did Larry the cable guy change or did I change? I cannot abide
Edited on Sun Jun-03-07 09:52 PM by spacelady
that fool anymore. I thought he was funny back when, but tonight with his most recent "show" I was consistently disgusted, I know I have changed, but he has got to be worse than ever because I was Never THAT bad in my thought processes. Comedy Central cannot condone this nonsense.

Edit: I have been watching The Stand as well for most of the day and this always makes me think of parallels of today's state of reality.

1. Could be both, y'know.
However, I think he has definitely gotten worse;
"pandering to his base". And his base isn't people
who appreciate the highbrow humor.

Some of his stuff used to be genuinely funny, but
I think since he's found some fame amongst the rural
RWers, he's really trying to play exclusively to
them these days, and it really shows.

You know he's not really a "redneck", right?
He grew up in Nebraska, has a college degree,
his "southern accent" is fake, and he keeps his
"personal life" very hidden, because his fans
would stop coming if they ever realized that
he's not much like the CHARACTER he plays.

5. OK this is why I paid attention because I grew up in Nebraska
Approx. 50 miles from Pawnee City. (No I did not know him personally). SO, here I am ending up in southern Alabama (which is a cosmopolitan mix of which I am very fond). I am thinking he is hilarious when talking about his Mama getting the walkin' farts at the Flea Market ( Now that's funny), but this "comedy special" has none of that colloquial charm, it is just hideous.

8. Nebraska
I don't know much of his work, know he has been on Insannity and is most likely a right winger. His fake accent is what bugs me the most. People from Nebraska have the most perfect non accented voice in the country, we do not sound like that!

Peace

12. I agree about the non-accent - Dan Rather would kill for my non-accent!
I kinda fudge it depending on what I'm doing & where I am, but probably not fooling anyone!

2. Git 'er done!!!
I think Larry The Cable Guy is one of the lamest comedians in existence. He's like Carlos Mencia pr Carrot Top - an unfunny hack who plays a character to a niche audience, and nobody but his audience can stand him!

3. He's starting to remind me of the lady
who wore the hat with the price tag on it.

6. That would be Minnie Pearl and I think she had a lot more integrity.
But I could be wrong. Because I WAS wrong about Larry TCG and DU'ers here directed me to his website which was WHOA! bad, so I am not happy that he is laughing all the way to the bank on the backs of people who cannot answer & fight back.

4. He's doing schtick.
Granted, it's stupid schtick, but that's all he he can do; cater to the 29%ers...

Check out Nebraska native Dan Whitney:

9. Maybe I should gain 40 pounds and affect a hillbilly accent.
I could be famous!

I just need a catchphrase like "Yippee-O!" or maybe "Cousin-fuckin'-fun"!
