1. You can't polish a turd.
McNabb is an excellent quarterback. Problem is, he doesn't have an offense around him.

One guy can't pull the train all the way to the Super Bowl.

16. Pinkston ...
... totally sucked. All McNabb did was scramble for his life, get drilled on every play, and have his receivers drop balls, particularly Pinkston. Freddie Mitchell was their best reciever, so that tells you something.

5. He was wrong
Rush said he was overrate BECAUSE of his race. That is obviously not the case.

McNabb is great. He just has NO receivers. If he had half the receiving talent that the Colts or Rams have he would be leading a dynasty.

46. He doesn't have offensive linemen, either
There's no other way to put it: The Panthers mauled the Eagles.

Let's see...they took Donovan McNabb out of the game early, which they had to do to win. IIRC they sacked him three times. They scored four interceptions, three by Ricky Manning. He Hate Me pulled off a 38-yard punt return.

What really made the difference in that game? The Carolina Panthers brought an NFL team to Philadelphia. Andy Reid went to Durham, kidnapped the Duke University football team, forced them into Eagles uniforms at gunpoint and sent them onto the gridiron to back up Donovan McNabb. I'm sorry, Eagles fans, but that did not look like a football team that should have been in the conference championship.

OTOH, the Panthers have essentially no passing game. A defense that could stop Carolina's ground game and sent them to the passing game could have sent Duke's football team to Houston.

Hell, he IS the Philadelphia Eagles!

Amazing what he can get doen with lousy receivers and mediocre running backs.

He single-handedly demolshed the Packers last week. Well, Farve helped a little.

Give this guy some talent ta pick up the slack, then see what he can do.

9. Look at this Bartcop exchange -Rush predicted Eagles would go all the way
Subject: Rush and McNabb

Retarded Bart,

As usual you are a little slow on the news.
Yes, it was a funny thing Fox sports did with a fake McNabb whaling the tar out of an effigy to Rush Limbaugh.

Only one problem with all your giggles and snorting.
Rush predicted McNabb and the Eagles will win the Super Bowl about three weeks ago.

Well sure, after saying McNabb was overrated by liberals, Rush has to retreat because McNabb brought
the Eagles to their third consecutive championship game so what choice did the vulgar Pigboy have?

You should feel dumb and uninformed, right? McNabb has thanked Rush Limbaugh for
revving him and his Eagles up for a magnificent run since Rush quit the sports show.

I'd have to see that to believe it.
Blind, I'll bet that didn't happen.

McNabb wants to hire Rush now and spend a lot of time with him planning future public relations efforts.

ha ha
Yeah, and he wants his daughter to marry the Nazi bastard, right?

Donovan McNabb now thinks Rush is the greatest.

You are one goofy duck, you know that?

So does Tiger Woods. So does Justice Clarence Thomas, J C. Watts, Tom Sowell, Walter Williams
and millions of black fans who understand he paves the road to success while Democrats give them
a lonely dirt road to trod on to the Liberal Plantation.

You were correct until you got to "millions."
The blacks making mega-money by selling out their race do very good - that's a fact.
Also, I'm not sure Tiger has said "Rush is the greatest," but I know those others have.
One hundred years ago, Slappy and Sowell would've been happy to whip runaway slaves
just to get a cute nickname from the smirking slave owner in the big white house.

Bob Blooger (making you look stupid again)

ha ha
Keep writing, no matter what.

10. None of the receivers for the Eagles
would be the number 1 guy on any other team in the league. Also they lost their linebackers and some of their d-line to free angency beacuse they won't put up any money. Both of these points came back and bit the Eagles in the ass.

BTW - This years Eagles team is weaker then the last two years.

17. Can't lay this all on McNab...
Watched the Philly game after the fabulous Patriots punched their ticket for Houston. First McNab got hurt early on. Second he was hitting his receivers but they were dropping easy catches all over the place. Third except for the Philly running back, the whole team looked flat. Hopefully the Pats will win big and erase the bad taste of the Red Sox going in the toilet in the seventh game against the Yanks a few months ago...Philly fans, I feel your pain!!

26. You, Or Rush, Should Try Being An NFL QB With No Great
running backs or receivers. Many times, as the Fox broadcasters pointed out, McNabb's receivers ran the wrong routes or had the ball knocked out of their hands.

One problem that I see for a lot of the NFL's African American QBs that can run is the tendency by the team to not surround these QBs with talent at other positions. McNair, McNabb, and Vick has inferior running backs and receivers.

They rarely even got open.

I don't think it is racial. McNair has had decent receivers over the years. Vick has Peerless Price. The problem is endemic to the Eagle's under Jeffery Lurie. Aside from his first year as owner, he has been very cheap and not signed any top-notch offensive free agents.

30. McNair
Edited on Sun Jan-18-04 11:28 PM by YNGW
MVP QB McNair has Eddie George at RB, one of the premier RB's in the league. They have excellent receivers in Derrik Mason, Justin McCareins and Drew Bennett and TE Frank Wycheck, and are the winningest team since 1999. So, don't tell me he's not surrounded. He can also do something McNabb can't do: which is THINK!!

Vick has been hurt all year, so we'll have to see how he does, but there's plenty of talent on the Falcons, including Pearless Price.

McNabb is not and never will be a premier QB. He wasn't that good at Syracuse. He's very athletically gifted, but he loses focus. He's done it three years in a row now. Philly needs to get a QB to get them over the top. And I hate that for the fans but they'll probably hang on to him, and he's not a winner. They haven't had that since Norm Van Brocklin.

Jumper, trust me I ain't raggin' on you or your favorite team, but McNabb is going to end up being just like Cunningham. Exciting player, but just can't get you over the top. You guys need a QB, and the good one's are few and far between.

Delhomme is certainly adequate now, but I won't be surprised if he ends up fading just like Kurt Warner.

35. Delhomme
Delhomme's talent level is somewhere between Trent Dilfer's and Kerry Collins. He is adequate but he isn't a star.

We haven't seen what McNabb can do with a supporting cast. He has been very good and it would be nice to see how he would play with a top-notch receiver.

Cunnigham only won one playoff game with the Eagles but he was a very good quarterback. He was much more accurate than McNabb is. I don't think he was to blame for their losses, though. They were not an elite team like the 2000-2003 Eagles were. The Eagles of the late 80's and early 90's had a lot of missing pieces; the latest team was close but lacked a little bit and I believe that was in the receiving corps.

42. You are right about this year
However, the Eagles will lose several key players next year, including the cornerbacks and Duce Staley. I think that they will be in decline for a few years before they reach this level. They will still be a playoff team but they will not make it to the NFC championship game next year, even with TO.

I agree that we need a top-notch receiver like TO. He would address our weak point. Sadly, though, the Eagle's owner will not pay the cash for TO. :(

43. Although I think Rush was wrong to say that on National TV,
I agree with him on some points. The NFL quarterback position has been mostly white, compared to some other positions. When a black man gets the QB job, it is just natural for the media and fans to root for him to excell.

Donovan McNabb is an excellent QB, but it is possible that he has had too much expected of him by the media. Here's an example: Brad Johnson, QB for the Bucs. Johnson is a typical white, pocket-passer QB. (If you are a football fan then you probably know what I mean) At the time of Rush's statement, Johnson had better career numbers and had won a superbowl. Yet he is paid considerably less than McNabb and is considered an average NFL quarterback.

Mc Nabb is more athletic, and can scramble as well as throw. His style of play is more exciting to watch. He is very marketable. I think this is part of the reason he is so highly regarded by the media. But I also believe part of the reason is because he is black. People want him to do good. People want Tiger Woods to do good because he is something exciting and different. And although there are more and more black QB's every day, the QB position has traditionally been filled by a white man.

I don't believe Rush acted smartly when he made his opinions on McNabb known before a national TV audience. If he would've just said, "McNabb sucks as a QB", then there would've been no problem. When he brought McNabb's race into a criticism of his ability, that's when he messed up.

But I do believe it's possible that McNabb had unrealistic expectations placed on him, and may have been overrated by some partly because of his color. But there are other factors involved also. I believe it is natural for people to root for the underdog (a black man in a position traditionally filled by white men), and this may have been the essence of Rush's statement, which got completely passed over because of political correctness.

But then again I could be wrong.
