1. Well, right now, they're E.T. and Snow WHite
In a few minutes I might go with Kane and GWTW, then after that maybe Star Wars and Jaws.....

2. Sophies Choice
All of the Holocaust movies leave such a memorable impression, but "Sophie's Choice" was one I remember walking out of feeling utterly sick.

3. 'Wings of Desire'...
which should have been translated 'Sky Over Berlin'. 'City of Angels' (which I didn't like) was loosely based on this German film. It's an absolutely gorgeous existential poem.

'Mulholland Drive'--it was one of the creepiest movies I've ever seen. Lynch is so good at making his movies look like your darkest nightmares.

4. loved Wings of Desire
just beautiful. Salvador made me "ill" for several days. I couldn't see any really intense political films after that for a while. Also Psycho... couldn't sleep that night and no one else was home when I got back from the theater.

On a positive note, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was stunning visually and with a beautiful story line.

12. Wings of Desire and Blade Runner.
That's overall.

But it was very difficult chosing just two. Very close runners-up are A Clockwork Orange, Apocalypse Now, Fight Club, Magnolia, and Cradle will Rock.

14. I bawled like a starstruck Japanese Schoolgirl while watching "Cradle"
I've never been so moved by a film in all my life. It probably has something to do with my old-school Trotskyist inlaws being involved with Blitstein's work, and seeing "Cradle" for the first time shortly after they died.

Funny how one's situation influences how he processes things, isn't it.

15. "Lawrence of Arabia" and "Wild Strawberries"
Lean's epic is done on a massive scale yet it remains uncommonly human and literate.

Bergman's quiet masterpiece is a sort of internal epic, a journey of eventual understanding.

If these two films vanished from the planet, I would feel bereft.
