Help! My email in IE 6 doesn't work!
Does anyone have a clue why my email in internet explorer 6 won't work? I reinstalled it last night and it crashes (dial-up) connection every time I go to check my email.

I had it in the shop and they claimed there wasn't anything wrong! They didn't seen particularly interested in helping me to save an aging ThinkPad that still works just fine otherwise.

I was thinking about downloading Netscape to see if the email will work with their new version. It doesn't work at all with Netscape 4.7 (does anything?).

This all started when I got hit with a trojan horse virus called aio.exe which affects the sound card among other things. I was downloading Windows 2000 updates when it occurred.

I managed to get rid of the virus and the sound is back now, but still no email.

Any idea on how to solve this problem? Do I need to reinstall Windows 2000? If so, I've got a major problem because I don't have a copy of Windows 2000.

Thanks for any help!

twilight :D

1. Well for starters IE6 doesn't have email!...

You have to have an e-mail program on your computer. Using Windows I would say it's outlook express. Until I know the right program you are using, I can't help you.

on edit: you might try this link, see if you can find what you are looking for.

4. thanks
Yes, it is Outlook Express. When I plug the settings into Netscape 4.7 it doesn't work. :(

I'll give that a try.

Thanks again.

14. Ditch the Zonealarm... it has problems with dialup sometimes
Especially when using MS products like outlook or outlook express.

2. Yeah, what he said
IE Explorer is the browser, Outlook Express is the default Windows email program. Yeah they are kinda sorta integrated but in your case you need to figure out why OE isn't working.

I very strongly doubt you will need to reinstall Windows.

6. no luck with Symantec's site
I found out how to get rid of that Trojan Horse virus from their site and successfully removed it.

I'll be darned if I can figure out why every time I launch Outlook Express to check my email that it crashes. Hmmmm ....

Will try a few other things.

May download Netscape 7 - maybe that will work I can only hope. I really don't feel like paying another $75 to have Windows 2000 reloaded again.

Thanks again!

3. I've friends and a siser who use IE

and it seems to go kaploooy after a year or so. I use Netscape 7 and Safari as broswers, will be getting Mozilla soon.
As to your e-mail well when one of my friend's IE when down so did their e-mail access the works, even with non-m$s provider.
In trying to reload IE, one of my friends who hadn't backed up anything got his hard drive re-initialized and ... (very sad tale). He was able to access his mail from work.
I used Netscape 4 on an old inherited Toshiba laptop and was fine until the hard drive made a horrendous noise and died.
Thank god I've got a Mac now (my old Mac II (1984) upgraded to fx, still works but was getting dated) but have to help friends and sisters with their Windoze systems (it is going to drive me to drink).
Good luck, try to get the IE reload CD from you computer provider, Dell Compac or whatever, one sister got it in the mail yesterday and it seems to be working again.

7. In the meantime...
You can access your email online with a lot of providers. Failing that, you can sign up for hotmail and set it to pick up your pop mail.

And if you are having trouble with OE, just download eudora. Its way better and you don't have so many problems with security and viruses.

8. thanks!
I have a copy of Eudora. I also have several hotmail.com accounts. Do you plug the settings in in the hotmail.com area?

I am not familiar with this process unfortunately.

I am using a different computer now and I can access mail via Outlook Express. I wonder what could have gone wrong?

Thanks again!

9. Go to hotmail.com or whatever
and it sould ask for you e-mail address and password and you should be able to access your e-mail. At least for my service provider and aol (was one sister's service provider) and my sister with hotmail could access it from my Mac.

12. FIXED! :)
:hi:

I got it fixed - on the old laptop now. I uninstalled that zonealarm firewall and messed around with the setting in Outlook Express. It had all three boxes checked where it should have had just the networking box - now only TCP/IP is checked ...

ANOTHER GREAT SUCCESS STORY FROM THE DU!!

Thanks again everyone - saved me some $ that I don't have or would rather donate to the campaign(s) coming up! :D
