My eldest daughter is getting married next week. Ask me anything...
My eldest daughter just came home from Philly, and is getting married next Friday. Now the three women in my household are going through periods of alternating (and concurrent) meltdown. Ask me anything...or give me some advice.

1. Learn to nod often
keep yer mouth shut, and stay outta the road. LOL

No, really. Congratulations. :hi:

3. thankyou...yes, the nodding part seems to be crucial in
short-circuiting a severe escalation of things.

4. It's doing a right-good job of it. My lovely wife is determined to
give the daughter her "dream wedding" but is doing most of the stuff herself. I am helping where I can, but I find this is not always...appreciated... :D :hi:

6. Oh, you name it...flower arrangements, endless decorations,
wine and beer deliveries, people who originally agreed to help dropping out, the wife's dress is still tighter than she wants it to be, fondant (fondant of all things), Me, in general...

7. Open your mouth ONLY to insert bourbon
Do not speak. Do not make eye contact. Do not make any facial expressions other than a moderate smile. Do nothing with the upper half of your face that could be interpreted as an eye-roll. Do not speak...

Have fun!

9. Yes, excellent advice...yet I am often asked my opinion on
any given thing, which is usually greeted with cries of desperation, a wringing of hands and a gnashing of teeth...no one is reasonable anymore. And I still have a week to go...a fishing trip sounds good right about now...

11. I think a 6 1/2 day fishing trip could save you a good chunk of sanity
Just come back with enough time to shower and put on a suit...

14. I am totally considering it...after all, I'm the father of the bride
seems like they oughta cut me some slack. I might not even bathe before changing. A guy in a tux reeking of trout...it oughta be a real hit! :woohoo:

10. Thankyou, wildhorses
and I am gaining an excellent son-in-law (from all appearances); it is survival over the next 7 days which is of concern to me.

18. Excellent.
Make sure you've got a hanky in your pocket.

If the father-daughter dance can make a cynical musician who's played a million receptions get choked up I know it'll get to you.

15. Aw, congratulations! My daughter got married in March, and it was
wonderful! My husband did their cake, and I did the flowers, and lots of people pitched in to do the food, set up, clean up, etc. It was wonderful! (That is my daughter and SIL in the pic in my sig line.)

16. Thanks, SeattleGirl ! That's pretty much how we're doing it too
one more week...outdoor wedding by the water and our weather has been great, so it should be good. And the new in-laws are great.

The atmosphere around here is just a bit more stressed than usual...

:D :hi:

17. Oh my, I hear you about the stress! But once the event starts,
just forget about all the prep, the stress, etc., and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

I got married outdoors too, at my inlaw's home. They had a big yard, and put in a waterfall, pond, and little bridge. It was quite nice, and a good time was had by all.

Congratulations again! :hi:
