Games People Play--literally
Computer games, mostly, or board or card games adapted to the computer, or other stuff.

Which ones have you mastered? Which games are you so good at that no one will play them with you?

I must admit to being an expert at Canasta, as my family and I played it quite a lot over the years, and I found a shareware version that I'm happy with.

Among my overall favorite games are Scrabble, Boggle, most card games, Kyodai--both the Mahjongg and the Hard Rivers, Bookworm (aka Bespelled), and any word search.

I've found I can't get into Sudoku and I never really enjoyed crossword puzzles. I do, however, like Mastermind and Battleship.

Years ago, we used to have the Avalon Hill Bookshelf games, and my favorite was Facts in Five. When I was with a group, we also played Diplomacy, Risk, and one of my cherished favorites, Cosmic Encounter.

I played Checkers, but never really cared for Chess, because I never wanted to memorize lists of moves from "champion" games. I played as illogically as one possible could. :)

I am a decent player at Trivial Pursuit and Monopoly, but don't care for a lot of the newer games out that cost a small fortune.

I'm sure I will think of a dozen more after I post this. It was always fun to have people around to play games with, and I miss that now. Playing with the computer games is okay, but there is nothing like a good argument about railroads, melding or other element of a game that you can be passionate about.

1. My brother and I were ninjas at Wip3out on the PlayStation
The original Playstation, that is. Nobody else we ever met had played that game like we had, so the only person who could ever give either of us a good game was the other.

8. I have to admit
I never really got to play too much with video games--I used to have an Atari 2600, but that seemed like centuries ago.

2. I'm a game fanatic
Edited on Sat Jun-09-07 02:14 PM by oktoberain
ThinkBlue1966 refuses to play Scrabble, Boggle, or Chess with me anymore. :(

We own about 10 different versions of Trivial Pursuit and Scene It. We love to play Monopoly, Electronic Battleship, Connect 4, Parcheesi, The Family Feud DVD home game, Name That Tune DVD (80's edition), and Clue.

By myself, I love playing PC Mah Jongg, The Sims 2, Empire XP (it's a "Risk" knockoff for the PC), WordMojo, online Chess, Internet Reversi, and Internet Spades.

We also play TONS of card games here at home--real cards, not the PC versions, lol. Rummy, Gin, Spades, War, Poker, Blackjack, and even Go Fish. :D

As for console and handheld games, I prefer Gameboy Advance SP (haven't been able to afford a DS yet) and I play silly-fun games like Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald; Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town, Final Fantasy 1 & 2, etc.

9. I used to play Sim City 2000
but never got into the people version. As soon as I free up some space on my hard drive, perhaps I will do that! You sound like someone I would appreciate a challenge with. :)

there are so many good games for that system and the new SP's with the bright screens are great and cheap.

10. Yep
I'm another one with a lot of "useless" knowledge. I applied once for Jeopardy, but didn't make it. But year, Trivial Pursuit helps satisfy that element. If you ever get the opportunity to find Facts in Five (I got my "new" copy at eBay fairly cheap), you should enjoy it--I think there is a regular game called "Categories" which is essentially the same--5 random categories and 5 random letters of the alphabet in a grid form--the timer is set for 3 (or 5?) minutes, and you have to fill out each category for each letter chosen. It's great if you have a lot of general information and trivia.

We used to play Yahtzee, but I don't play very often, andI never got into cribbage. My aunt tried once to teach me to play backgammon, but I never got into that one, either.

4. Ive spent countless hours playing mmorpgs
Started with Ultima Online, then Dark Ages of Camelot, and finally World of Warcraft.

Nothing will ever compare to the first days of Ultima Online. The industry went the other way with the concept making it safer for anyone to exist on the "worlds." Ultima was not like that at first. It was defiantly a challenge to survive :D

11. I used to play the original text game
Adventure quite often. I recently downloaded the "Zork" version but haven't really sat down and played it--sometimes I think the earlier versions of some of these games were more fun, because they had so many unique challenges that were never seen in later versions.

and before that BBS turn-type games.

I liked the "social" aspect of playing with people from all over the globe.

13. I haven't played
Texas Hold'em. It's one of those games that are much more fun when you have friends around, and I haven't had that lately. I know some of the game sites have an electronic version to play online with others, but I haven't sought it out yet.

16. I was doing both for a while, now just online
I was initially amazed at the diversity of times and locations in the Metro area to play with fun people, but the bar tabs kept getting bigger.
I can play more online, but my live game doesn't get any better that way.
I used to go to Poker Stars but now only Full Tilt. I can recommend both highly.

Lately I've been playing Blazing Angels on Xbox. It doesn't have the realism or control of a flight sim but it's still a helluva lot of fun. The dogs hate it when I crank the SurroundSound up and play the Pearl Harbor mission.

28. Civ 2,3,and 4.
I don't want to brag, but I've yet to meet anyone who can beat me at Civilization.

Same goes for Risk, even though there's a randomness factor.

31. avalon hill?
I thought those games were published on a 3M label. I also love Facts In Five and have enjoyed some of the others. That reminds me to start looking for them at rummage sales. They're very cool.

I also like Stratego quite a bit.

And I just bought a new game to take to a family reunion week at a beach house -- it's supposed to be hilarious. Called "Apples to Apples."

Has anyone played it?

34. click on this post and i will come to your house and kick your ass in Street Fighter II
:7

i've been playing tabletop RPG's since i was a kid....D&D, BattleTech, Shadowrun (currently looking for a Shadowrun group)

In college we played a lot of Clue for some reason. It actually gets more difficult after a six pack.

For MMORPGS I played Asheron's Call for several years, then DAoC, then decided to quit MMORPGS and never play them again. (you guys need to put down the digital crack pipe :P)

Currently I've been playing Knight's of the Old Republic II, which is pretty cool but getting old now that I've beat it about 3 times.

I got a gameboy SP and I still play some games like Final Fantasy I/II and the Castlevania games.

A while back I whipped out the emulator and beat some old Commodore 64 games that I used to have. I finally beat the Windham Classic version of Treasure Island, which I could never beat as a kid.

Probably one of my favorite games of all time is Street Fighter II. Oh my god, my friends and I spent countless hours playing tournaments way back in early 90's all the way up through college a decade later. Another great tournament game was Mario Kart....hours and hours of classic stoner competition.
