Who here is thinking about applying to be a Mod?

I'd go from Mod to TS in seconds.

but cannot assure that I will be here regularly (enough for that.)

I've thought about it in the past, but this is the first time I've ever sent in the paperwork.

After this week at work and looking to my game-plan for the next, I may have a LOT more time to devout to my fav hangout here!

My first donation star was a gift. My second came from ThinkBlue1966, who donated from both of us, but that isn't good enough--it wasn't from my username. :(

It's cool. It does not cost as much as they said it would. Keeping in touch with Skinner by phone is a pain, I mean he's always wanting to know what your doing, how long have you been online, what are you wearing, but sometimes I would just let the machine answer.

Having to carry a special DU laptop everywhere was kind of incovenient, especially with the attached diesel emergency generator, but it was better than the floor shackle.

Look, if you are not afraid of the sight of blood, give it a try. Make sure your tetanus shot is up to date before going into the mod hot tub, especially after the Magistrate has been in it.:hi:

...and then there is Proud Patriot sneaking into your bedroom with a knife.

I mod enough forums-no way I'd add DU. It's too crazy here.

The only thing worse than modding here would be modding here beginning January of 2008. I hope that the people who decide to be mods at that time have decent access to mental health care-they'll need it.

I'll probably be the only sane person left.

I found myself posting there more frequently because after moderating GD, I needed a break.

However, I'll probably be happy to sit in front of the computer in December and January, so, I think I'll wait.

It gives you a much greater understanding of the dynamics of the forum and you see a lot more of what goes on. One thing I will say is that you tend to spend more time moderating than you spend posting.

That and the temptation to write a perl script that would lock/delete every thread/comment would be to great to resist.. I nerd like that.

So now, I'm worry that I shouldn't make that committment.

It's definitely interesting. Gives you a different perspective on DU. You don't realize just how nasty this place can get until you see all the alerted messages. But there's also a sort of Esprit de Corps among the mods that makes it fun. Even with that, though, it's easy to get burnt out when you're inundated with the worst of DU, and often times with alert messages that are even worse than the posts being alerted on ("WHY THE HELL HASN'T THIS BEEN REMOVED?! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!!") So, in some senses, it's a bit of a thankless job.

All that said, I do intend to do it again. I just need more vacation time. I don't donate as much as I'd like to DU, so picking up a mod term now and then is my way of giving back.

Also, I like tombstoning trolls. :evilgrin:
