PUPPY PICS: Introducing Fern
You may recall that our rescue took in a day old pup named Templeton because he wouldn't nurse:

His sister Fern is now with us, as her mama tried to eat her. She's 4 days old in these pics...

OK - I'm not being forward nor flirty (Leftymom - please don't hurt me. I'm old enough to be both of yall's mom!) - but there is something incredibly sexy about a "big strong guy" like you, cuddling and feeding those itty-bitty puppies.

2. How precious!!!!!!
I had three newborns at one point although their momma took good care of them. I still have them today (4 years later). They are the sweetest loving dogs I have ever known. The first human they saw when they opened their eyes was me. They are overly protective of me now and treat me as the alpha dog.
Have fun, they are going to be beautiful dogs!

4. We'll likely
return them to mama and their siblings when they're 4 weeks old and weaned. Depends upon her/their situation. Once their 8 weeks old, we'll find them all forever homes.

like nutrition or enough spots at the "lunch counter?"

Fern's lucky to have another option available, and doubly lucky to be with Templeton now. She's a cute little pup too.

22. There are many reasons
that a mother dog might try to eat her young. It's not always a "lacking something" reason, though.

Either way, mom is probably less taxed, and Fern is certainly taken care of.

23. Oh, the memories. Years ago, my ex-wife stole a baby beagle from the lab at Yale Hospital.
Only two days old. I took him to work and fed him from a bottle every hour. He only lived a week, though.

But we gave little Rescue a week he wouldn't have had otherwise.

Good for you. And best of luck to the pups.
