I adopted a kitten (pics)
Edited on Mon Jun-18-07 12:51 AM by socordsx
So I've been a dog guy most of my life and still am for the most part. I only really started liking cats in the last couple of years. I have a couple friends who share a house and they have 3. I'm over there a lot and the felines have really grown on me. So I gave in and adopted a kitten this weekend. Pictures of the furball below!

Hes still pretty nervous, trying to get use to his new surroundings and all. When I adopted him there was another kitten there about the same age but I decided to go with this little guy. I'm considering going back and adopting the other one as well, thinking it might be good to have them grow up together with a playmate.

2. What a lovely boy! If there's any way you can do it,
please do go back and get the other little guy. Call Me Wesley and I often wish we had adopted our Ginger-boy's brother, Barley, instead of letting him to go home with our goddaughters who live across the street from us. Ginger and Barley are now seven years old and because they live so near to one another and are brothers, they're best buddies. We just think they'd both be happier if they lived together. :hi:

16. absolutely! get the other one...
then you'll have two buddies of your own, and they'll have company when you're not there. A second cat really is no more 'work' or effort than just one...

20. I vote for the second too!!!!
Watching cats play is just wonderful and having two play with each other is even more wonderful. Plus they keep each other company.

It's much better for their health. It must be terribly sad for the kitten you left behind. I hope he doesn't get adopted out to a mean person. OMG what if he doesn't get adopted for a long time! He'll either be euthanized or spend a terrible long time in a cage all by himself. I wonder if you are mistaking your kitten's shyness for real sadness at having his sibling taken away from him?

How am I doing? I've got more.......

4. Nice tuxedo, well balanced face.
Speaking from long experience, I have gotten cats/kittens one at a time and have often wished I had gotten 2 at a time. Next time I'm going to get 2 so they can romp together. He looks soft and fuzzy and a little guy. Congratulations.

Love those and he is a cutie. Love the marking on his face.
Congrats to you!

I'd go with another one too. I waited a few years and now I don't know if my cat would accept another cat. Soon would be good.

7. I got one cat and then another a year later.
I had the first one, Snowball, who is tempermental and hates males to boot. She always went after my son. Then about 10 months later, my son mentioned that his best friends cat had kittens and bugged me for about 2 months to have one of the kittens. He came home in tears because his friends mom couldn't find a home for the last kitten and she was going to get rid of it. I gave in and we ended upe with Patches a really cute tuxedo femaole cat.

then we moved in with TrogL who had 2 cats of his own plus his daughter's. I don't know how we maintained the sanity with 5 cats in the house. We are now down to 4 as his daughter moved into a place that allowed pets. So we now have 4 cats and a hedgehog. We had abird but she got out of the cage and soemhow ended up outside. I also had 2 fish however they died shortly after moving her.

I say go for it and get the second kitten.

30. My Babies

This is Patches, the baby of the family. She is a tuxedo cat who has 7 toes on both front paws.

Smokey is a female Russian Blue who is somewhat insane. Nevertheless, I still love her and she often sits on my lap while I am watching tv, snuggling with TrogL or trying to knit.

Snowball is the kitten that was rescued. As a small kitten she had been left in a box in the dumpster by my apartment, This was before moving in with TrogL.

I still need to get pictures of our male tabby, Tiger

He's a handsome little devil--I'm with everyone else in that he definitely needs a buddy. (That way they can keep each other company when you're not around, too.)

13. Awwww
Kitties are all cute and stuff. :)

I also agree that you should get the other one. I am so happy that we adopted ours together. They're siblings and I would have felt horrible if we'd separated them. They hang out together and give each other baths and sometimes have paw fights.

I brought another kitten home when they were about three years old. They're very adaptable little kitties so it didn't take long for them to welcome her and start giving her baths and hanging out with her. Do they already know each other? If not, gradual introductions are good. We kept the new kitten in the bedroom for a while and fed them on both sides of the door. Then we let the big cats in while we held the kitten, and then we progressed to letting them all hang out together while we were around, and then they were cool with each other.

I'm starting to crave a kitten. I don't think my old guy would appreciate it. But he just lost his brother last weekend. I'm torn whether or not it would be good for him.

Enjoy your little guy.

19. Ahhhh!
He looks like my new cat, Mimi.

I love Tux cats.

I really recomend that you go back and get the other one.

We have five cats. (I know we're a bit crazy) But the last two (and trust me they will be the LAST) we got were not from the same litter. Nor where they in the same cage together, but they have taken to get other like blood sisters. They currently have share the spare room away from the others until they get fixed, so they are very tight with each other.

Congrats on the new kitty.

If you get the other one, please post pics!!

and trust me, he won't be, either. They'll have sooo much more fun together and will be able to keep each other company. I haven't read your entire thread, but knowing how many DU cat-lovers there are here, I'm SURE I'm not the only person who has said this. :D

Good luck and have fun! He's adorable. Kittens are the best! :hi:
