For her mother, it's been Kayla's most poignant birthday so far...
Happy 20th Birthday to my beautiful porcelain doll!

Then...

And now...

I can't be with her on her birthday, but she's coming to visit in a couple of weeks, so that will have to do. I'll need to keep myself busy today.

1. Happy birthday!
She's beautiful!

Heh...isn't it fun, trying to combine birthdays and Father's Day?

3. Oh, it's worse than that.
June 18th is also Kayla's father's birthday.

And sometimes both birthdays fall on Father's Day!

Kayla says this year is "no big deal" to her (she's apparently saving for a big 21st birthday blowout in Las Vegas), but it's a very, very big deal to me.

5. I can imagine...
I've never missed any of my kids' birthdays. And they've all been here for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

So far.

It's inevitable, though. It's going to happen and I'm probably going to be a basket case.

6. When we lived in Minnesota, we usually celebrated Kayla's birthday at home early, and then
even if it wasn't a weekend, she'd go to dinner with her father on their actual birthday. After we moved to Idaho, she was usually here for her birthday.

This year, she's living in Minnesota. She says she has no plans for the day, and didn't even care if she got the day off. Her boyfriend is working 2pm to 11pm, and she has no idea what her dad is doing.

She's coming here for a few days the first week of July, so we plan to celebrate her birthday then.
